shetlandpeat
I wonder if the residents close to the area will get as much support as those residents close to the VE site?
MuckleJoannie
Dales Voe is several miles by road from any house in Lerwick. The nearest residents are in Califf at the other side of the voe. I can't see them being inconvenienced unless it's particularly noisy.
bug
Dales Voe will be a great stop gap for Shetland.... decommissioning of the oily stuff for the next 50-90 years or so .....forward thinkers should be buying shares (for their grandbairns) in the decommissioning base designed specifically for quite large wind turbines... we can call it Tomo'syerd

mikeyboy
I worked in the AF Decom yard in Norway earlier this year. Although the yard itself isn't exactly pretty the surrounding Fjord and countryside were absolutely spotless. There was even a salmon farm about 1/2 a mile away so great care was taken that nothing entered the water.
Keedle
The yard at Vats in Norway had a mercury spill and had to pay the fish farm compenation. There is twenty houses between Califf and Breiwick.
mikeyboy
Really that will be why he is on the phone every day complaining.
Urabug
Brilliant news---Dales Voe has been identified as a preferred location for the UK’s first ultra deep water port. So is this where the 800 new jobs are to be!!!!
Ghostrider
Where there's muck there's brass. Bring it on, it only a pity its taken so long to get this far.

Nigel Bridgman-Elliot
Did we complain as much when they decided that Sutherland was the most optimal UK location to host the UK's first spaceport..
Capeesh
Not everyone seems to be thinking it's good news! Dundeecom fury at Scottish Government’s ‘frivolous spending’ on city’s rival portJust read this and thought there must be some kind of mistake. After reading so many negative opinions on Shetlink regarding the SNP Scottish government you would've thought they had some kind of vendetta against us here in Shetland.Yet here they are investing tax payers money into decommissioning in Shetland, furthering our chances of winning business while angering SNP voting Dundee who have had no such help and have relied solely on private money to try and win decommissioning business. SNP voting Dundee (near the central belt) are up in arms, accusing the Scottish government of creating an uneven playing field, unfairly helping us here in Shetland almost like whatever the opposite of centralisation is.Could this be yet another example of "what have the Romans ever done for us"?...copyright Monty Python Edited September 12, 2018 by Capeesh

Dundeecom fury at Scottish Government’s ‘frivolous spending’ on city’s rival port Dundeecom still seem quite irked about all this https://www.shetlandtimes.co.uk/2018/10/19/questions-raised-over-moves-to-make-dales-voe-decommissioning-hub Do you think it's a fair point or just sour grapes?
