of course this is not another attack on the rural community. we would be silly to think so.after all the 66% that live out with lerwick are so ungrateful for our crumbs.

the school bus routes don't rely on there safety surveys they are rubbish. hence why wester skeld its exempt from the winter cuts. make sure you fight them.

I hear that the SIC have agreed a report ceasing SIC funded rural youth clubs and stopping winter buses in rural areas. I imagine this will reduce rural employment. No word of cutbacks in da toon.

It's ok there are no rural youth clubs active in da toon that can be ceased.

The rural bus route cuts scare me. My kids chose to go to Sandness so I accepted their choice realising there would be no council funded transport available. I bought us an old Land Rover to get us there and back twice a day safely. It saved our lives so many times in all weathers.

The entitlement to sick pay and maternity pay is a national agreement which the SIC is bound by.

look at the cuts made. is it balanced across the whole of shetland. i would not be moaning as much. however its not. our schools our transport even our bogs are getting gutted. yet when we look at were money is being spent its in lerwick.

The first toilets closed were in Lerwick – Clickimin and Grantfield. Cuts were made to discretionary school transport in Lerwick years ago, which shows with the congestion in Gilbertson Road and Bells Road about three o clock as folk wait to collect bairns. Why the anti-Lerwick at every turn? Does it say somewhere in the present Council proposals that Lerwick will be exempt?

they are going on price per head of the popultion in each area . sp farther from the town more you cost

Yeah, and country folks' rubbish subsidises the heating scheme. Does that, in turn, lower our council tax?

Anyway, be interesting to see how the SIC is gonna deal with the 2014 Waste Regulations whereby they've got to provide recycling provisions and ALL businesses have to make reasonable attempts to recycle, sort their waste into normal waste and recycling waste, have their waste which falls under recycling collected (if need be by a contractor) to meet the new regulations ... apparently a 50 mile round trip for me wouldn't be reasonable cos I've checked with the helpline! So nice of the SIC to have a pep talk on this smack bang in the middle of a business day but don't even advertise a telephone number to call for advice on the advert for those unable to attend.

I think the idea is for the youth clubs to be run by people wiling to do it for nothing. So that will save them some cash.

Its all very well for an under 8 to walk 2 miles and an over 8 to walk 3 miles. When the sun is shining and the birds are sining. Diffrent story when it is wet, windy, blowing a gail, or even strong wind, snow, sleet....

Which is a lot of the time in Shetland.

Yes the busses were stopen in lerwick but there is the Town service that goes up Gilbertson Rd at 3pm. Not to sure about the mornings though.

Its a diffrent story out of lerwick as there is no bus for them to catch.

Anyway what could posibly happen to children walking 2 or3 miles to school there and back???

I would have thought if the toilets were that important, why has the community not opened them on their own backs?

I have yet to see the relation between a business recycling and children having to walk to school.

I would guess, going by other areas, if the council cannot afford to provide the "extras" it may be time for communities to start acting as a community if they want things to continue.

To give you an example I live in the town at the top of the Staneyhill and to my address it is just inside the limit, apparently - but my kids can walk to the town centre bus stop which they pay 40p each way daily. There is a school bus for the AHS and as this would take it outside the limit I am not sure if they pay or not - Is there a charge for school buses? - I will be honest and say that I moaned about having to pay this to start with but - its better than having them walk. I would like to add that I know of several kids who get taxis to school each day this cost must surely add up! The new houses that are being built at Hoofields will be outside the limit for kids so they will have to have a service laid on there I would have thought!
