darknightstar
Does anyone know who owns/runs the shop in Levenwick? It used to be a great little shop and had the post office there too, but these days it seems a bit haphazard with random opening hours, out of date products, not the best things in stock and the prices seem to be out of line with everywhere else locally. Obviously, it's a shame the post office isn't there anymore. The notices/posters/ads put up are getting old - some over 5 years out of date! I was wondering if perhaps they may want some help with the place and try to get it back on track? It could be a really great asset to everyone in Levenwick! sludgegulper
Urabug
This shop used to belong to the Irvine family, but I have no idea who has it now or for the matter if it has changed ownership. Just another casualty of the times we live in,unable to compete with the supermarkets and the internet.
trooter
I think it's still the same owner, an elderly man. There used to be 2 men that ran it, keeping it open 24 hours a day. Just the 1 now which would explain the haphazard hours.

Guest Mr.Brown
Been thinking the same but what should we do, any suggestions?
darknightstar
I'd say approach the guy who owns/runs it and offer to help him with it, but I don't know him at all and I'm not sure he'd take it very well and accept the offer of help. Otherwise, maybe Levenwick Hall/community could try to raise money for a buy out or offer to takeover running it? Run it as a community shop similar to Bigton, either with volunteers or paid staff? It's a very tricky one!
Guest Mr.Brown
All good ideas but like you, I don't know how he would take an offer of help. Don't know either if there is enough local interest to run the shop, I guess we will find out when the shop owner decides to call it a day. darknightstar
He'll run it until he dies, I think. Then, who knows what will happen. I mean I'd love to own and run the shop with my other half, maybe bring back the post office too and see what else we could do with it, but unfortunately we don't have the money or business management experience to do it even if the opportunity arose. Guest Mr.Brown
I know the post office there wasn't given up willingly,it was the P.O. that closed it despite a petition at the time. I'm not saying that it couldn't be started again but I'm not in the know about these things. Like you I have no experience of running a business but I do fantasize about what I would do with the shop!
