eBay Items not Arriving

Is anyone else having a problem with eBay purchases not arriving?  Within the past 6 months or so I have placed 10 orders and 5 of them have not turned up.  Mostly sent by Royal Mail, but 1 was sent by courier.  I was tracking the latter parcel, and it just went missing on the mainland.  I am wondering if the other 4 items were that the vendors just didn't have them in stock, but took the order anyway.  My other half has had one item not turn up from eBay in the last 10, but that was sent from China, so further to travel means more chance of getting lost.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I wouldn't think eBay is at fault Bigmouth. I get more stuff than is probably healthy off of there and it has always come through. Are the missing items from the same seller? You're success rate on getting what you've paid for is pretty "rubbish" [read: I'd be spitting bullets too]

You're either buying borderline 'dodgy' stuff, which by default is usually offered by borderline 'dodgy' sellers, or you've hit an almost unbelievable run of bad luck.....

Things go missing with the Mail and Couriers all the time regardless who the sender is, I've never found ebay to be any worse, or better than anyone else in that department. 1 missing per 100 items bought would probably be a reasonable average wherever you shopped off island and entrusted delivery to a third party.

Of course, you may have just had a massive wave of karma hit you, sent by local shop owners for not buying from them instead. ;)

P.S. Anything bought from China, the best outcome is for it NOT to turn up...... A lot of it doesn't, and from what does, only a minimal percentage of it works like it should. I've yet to come across anything of it that didn't make Dodgy Hodgy's tat emporium products seem like Harrods goods instead.

I tend to use eBay on a regular basis and most items arrive without issue.

I have found that a few sellers are saying they posted something, and when you tell them it has not arrived they won’t send out a replacement and cancel the order. One told me it the easiest way to avoid paying the high postage and keep within eBay rules.

I have had several issues with buying an item, paying for it immediately, just followed by the order being cancelled by the seller with an excuse, like out of stock, once they realised where it was to be posted to. Interestingly when doing a search of their eBay shop, you will find they still have dozens if the same item for sale.

But trying to find a way through the maze to complain is a waste if time.

The usual is for most to contact you seeking additional shipping fees, I’ve noticed this is also creeping into Amazon, despite prime members getting free delivery.

Searching for an item on eBay yesterday, became a task as most were stating, they won’t send to the islands. Eventually found one who would send it free :-)

My Items tend to be small items from power sellers. The last missing package was spark plugs for the car. I also lost an expensive, large and heavy padlock recently. That was the one that came by courier, or rather didn’t! There was also a power bank, not from eBay, and I now understand that the Post Office won't carry these so that was explained.

I think most of our purchases come from China these days. Some are sold by the Chinese direct to the customer, whilst others are sold from UK distributors with a healthy mark-up. There has been a huge improvement in the quality of their goods, but poor pay and child labour is still a problem, although pay has been improving. I am happy paying a fair price for a product if it stops the workers being exploited.

In respect to not being able to get goods shipped here, and in the case where they are not 'dangerous' items, I usually spot that the shipping method is by courier and then always offer to pay the extra charges. In the case of expensive items, the vendor often writes the extra cost off.

Yup, had that.  One badgered me for extra postage when they realised where I was.  I said no. It costs the same for Royal Mail all over UK and last time I looked Shetland was still in UK.  I ended up reporting him for harrassment.

Mostly, though, it all goes fine.  If they whinge about Shetland, then if that is not mentioned in listing, tough.  I have had folk cancel orders too when they look at the map.

So frustrating.  Chinese sellers are ok, interestingly enough.  So far......

My Items tend to be small items from power sellers.

Being a Powerseller means less than nothing, the 'status' is based on annual sales volume and/or value and on maintaining a certain positive feedback percentage rate.

It penalises lower volume higher ticket sellers and favours low value large volume sellers. It doesn't take many difficult customers with unrealistic expectations or just plain old spiteful ones to knock 2% off a 1200 unit/annum seller's positive rating, but it takes a hell of a lot of ripped off customers to knock 2% off a 60,000 unit/annum seller's one.

I ordered some T-shirts from Jacamo recently. On Wednesday I got an e-mail from "Hermes" saying the parcel  had been delivered and as we were out  (we were in all day) the driver left the parcel in our (Green) shed (Hold on we don't have a shed) and a message saying (Please see photograph) "For security reasons I have not printed the photograph". Anyway I printed the pic, got in the car, an went shed hunting. After touring side roads, dirt tracks etc, etc and quite a few private driveways I found the shed (only to find no parcel in sight). Just as we were getting ready to drive home the Lady of the house turned up and after explaining why we were searching her property she said " Ah! it's yours, but it's in the wrong shed!". Seems the driver photographed the wrong shed and placed the parcel in the feed shed.

Kus over 1.5 miles from us   (A total of 3 miles to retrieve it) Like myself Jacamo were not too happy.

^ That's what happens when the numpty in charge of sorting believes Orkney and Shetland are part of the Western Isles (and there's a scary number of people on mainland Scotland who do....), and that's the nearest depot to them. They have no-place else to go other than back in to the system as 'undeliverable'.

Frustrating, yes. So now I try to buy only from eBay resellers in the UK where I can. I've had one too many issues with goods from China not arriving (no "dodgy stuff", though), or not being what they say they are. I'm happy to pay the small premium for a better delivery time and the hope of returning the goods if I have to. Since this whole "your location is not included in our listing" thing is annoying.

  • 5 weeks later...

In the last 3 years, ordered over 1,000+ items online, 95% from Ebay, I'd say 99% of them arrive.

The most trouble I had was from Amazon orders not arriving, or being cancelled.

Tried AliExpress once, it didn't arrive, apparently they couldn't find the address so sent it back !

The few times I had Ebay issues, it was generally a seller with a poor reputation (Not necessarily a low number, if you check the negative feedback comments for the last 6 months, it usually gives a fairly accurate picture.) and occasionally one that didn't realise sending to here would cost a lot more.

I often have to carefully check in advance if sellers are willing to post here or not, though much of the time, they plainly point out that this postcode is either somewhere they don't deliver to, or charge a small fortune to do so !

Items from China I find can at times arrive quicker than from mainland UK !

The longest I had to wait for an item was 3+ months, and it came all the way from Lerwick..

Sometimes items aren't packaged very well and suffer some damage on their way here. (Usually not fatal damage..)
