Well why should the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man get all the tax haven money? Bring it on! Never mind the morality lectures, if the the money's there let's have a slice of it.

Exactly! Its not the job of any legislature to preach morality, and its certainly nobody's job to 'dictate' morality.

Tax haven, flag of convenience state, gambling haven, booze cruise destination and multiple others as well, if our status and/or geographical location makes it possible that we can cash in by having more attractive taxation rates than others, it needs to be examined very carefully and only discounted *if* the negatives, to us, outweigh the positives.

The negatives to others and/or those who use it are no our problem.

You can either choose to live in a society that is morally sanatised, or one that is financially affluent, they are mutually exclusive states of being. A middle ground compromise is what we've been trying to live with now for several centuries, its never worked out too well, and certainly getting no better as time passes.

A Goverment report estimated that Brexit could create 5000 new jobs in the fishing sector and bring in an extra £540 million to the economy . https://www.sff.co.uk/fishing-industry-stands-gain-hugely-brexit-report/

Your article, Watter, is from the Scottish Fisherman's Federation but it goes on to talk about Britain, and British fishing. I wonder why?

Now come on George, the interests of the Scottish fishermen is exactly the same as the interests of fishermen in the rest of the UK. They have a common interest in the health of the UK fishing industry as a whole.

They aren't interested in division, please remember that some 93% of UK fishermen voted to leave the EU, for obvious reasons.

Perhaps the financial side and the possible jobs created by Brexit is worth considering, the French, Spanish  and Dutch certainly seem to think the fishing industry is of major importance.

It's important to Britain according to the fishermen involved.

The SNP is to vote against the Goverments Fisheries Bill which paves the way for Britian taking back control of its waters .https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/18688457.nationalists-call-scots-tory-mps-defy-whip-fishing/

Perhaps the SNP need reminding that during the last little bit of "unpleasantness" with our European neighbours, one of the few foods that was not rationed was Fish and Chips.

Here is the Press and Journals take on the SNP attempt to keep the CFP in place and block the UK taking back control of its fishing grounds . Fishermen should remember this at next years Scottish elections .  https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/politics/uk-politics/2456053/douglas-ross-snp-have-betrayed-the-wishes-of-scotlands-fishermen/

^I would suggest that the S.N.P. are better to those of us north of the border than the rubbish down around Westminster. It would, of course, be interesting to see any proof that you could show to prove me wrong.

Luckily, however, it was not the S.N.P. that signed the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community. That was done by Westminster in 1957, and one ore two of the Liberal Party used to hang around there I believe. That is what inflicted the European Union upon us.

For the sake of accuracy, the UK wasn't a signatory of the 1957 The Treaty of Rome/ Treaty establishing the European Economic Community (it was signed by Belgium, West Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg & Netherlands). It's been pointed out many times over the years when you mistakenly post that.
