^^Your link tells us that 17,000 per annum die from the common 'flu in England, not the U.K.

"Public Health England estimates that on average 17,000 people have died from the flu in England annually between 2014/15 and 2018/19. However, the yearly deaths vary widely¾from a high of 28,330 in 2014/15 to a low of 1,692 in 2018/19."

And also the minor point highlighted by the graphic posted above. There are still people that don't understand covid masks are to limit the spread of what's coming out of the wearer and not to stop yo

It would indicate that a scary amount of people chose to ignore scientific fact, the reality of life around them and plain old common sense, choosing to believe random hellery on youtube instead.

Nah nah, I'm no gettin involved we dis level o apocalyptic pleepsin. Dry your eyes boys and try no let folk annoy you sae much.   I'm finished me wark so I'm aff for a walk and I'll liklee nip intae d

Here's another question for the amateur statisticians...

For those that give annual figures for ailments that require hospital treatment and may lead to death, what would happen to those hospitals if instead of being spread over a whole year they all hit in the space of a couple of weeks?

If you got a years worth of rain in a day there would be total destruction, could the same analogy not be the case with our health service and this virus?

You are in a room and someone "lets off" the odour is obnoxious, now you can smell this and take evasive action but if this was Covid 19 it would be odourless but just as potent, with lethal consequences.

Someone is smoking a fag some distance away can you smell it !

Guess the 2 meter rule is hardly enough.

It will be interesting to see which countries give up the special powers that they have brought in when this is over. It is to be hoped the leaders of countries learn from this and start working together to build a global community to benefit everyone and not just the wealthy but as money/banks have been running things up until the present time I doubt if we will see any change in attitude. We should also prepare for the next disaster which will come be it climate asteroid pandemic alien attack.

Airborne viruses differ from farts and fag reek in that:

* viruses are (usually) suspended in relatively heavy droplets (commonly propelled by coughs and sneezes) which fall under their own weight but can live on the surfaces they fall on, whereas

* farts and fag reek are a combination of gasses and aerosol suspended particles

The recommended 2m distance, combined with handwashing (in case you've come into contact with infected surfaces) should be fine in most instances, unless of course someone coughs or sneezes directly at you. If coronavirus could exist in aerosol form, the situation would be much more serious

Except COVID-19 does exist in aerosol format, according to the Korean professor.  He was recently interviewed as he is a leading expert, having previously been at the forefront with SARS and MERS.  He is also actively involved with COVID-19.  According to him, the reason why so many were infected at the Korean mass wedding ceremony a short while back, is because we all spit to a degree, even minutely, when we speak.  When you sing or all speak at once in a confined space, COVID-19 can be spread in aerosol format.

That's one reason why outdoor gatherings were permitted previously because in a confined space, aerosol format does exist and has already been proven to exist but all evidence is anedotal because evidence is not being gathered in scientific labs.
