AbilityNet Volunteer wanted

Recommended Posts

Are you able to volunteer a few hours a month to become an AbilityNet volunteer, providing friendly technical support to older people and people with disabilities in the community (and their carers)? We don't currently have a volunteer in Shetland, but we'd really like one.

Our volunteers support people with technology issues such as:

  • Helping install and set up new hardware and software, configuring settings and adjusting accessibility settings.
  • Diagnosing problems, malfunctions, viruses, error messages, and explaining software update requests.
  • Improving confidence and ability with technology, to ensure all the full benefits of the digital world can be experienced by older / disabled people.
  • Guidance on how to shop and stay safe online, make video calls to friends and family, and access online entertainment services.

Currently support is being provided remotely, so volunteers will need access to a phone and the internet. However, once lockdown restrictions ease, we expect volunteers to be able to get back into visiting people's houses, and work with them face-to-face when appropriate.

If you're interested, there's more information about the role here and details of how to apply here. You and you can email the Orkney and Shetland Coordinator here
