Religion & Theology (& should we respect beliefs)

thats the point it does not matter what we each belive or not as the case maybe its the attitude we have.

Ok its true that it doesn't matter what we believe. However, when atheists/agnostics start committing genocide, infringes of human rights and bigoted/sexist/homophobic/racist/xenophobic behaviour based on a fake invisible man... extremist religious views are far more dangerous than extremist non-religious beliefs. An extremist Muslim might blow you up, or an extremist Christian might bomb an abortion clinic, however an extremist atheist... they'll... tell you that your God is stupid and be dogmatic? Ouch.

Mao Tse Tsung and Stalin were not known for their theisms and some would say they committed some, or all, of the above. I'm not sure about the invisible man bit though. Given that some records suggest that Chairman Mao ruled from his bed most of the time, who knows who he was sharing it with? :P

but then, you couldn't say Mao Tse Tsung, Stalin, or Pol Pot for that matter, persecuted and/or killed their victims in the name of atheism, they just replaced god with themselves

Excuse me, but have you read your babble? Didn't God kill every living thing (except what was on the ark) Or have I read it wrong? (response politely requested)

Isn't God responsible for all the earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, volcano eruptions, and general bad weather that we get? Oh and the lightning strikes? (Lets not forget the lightning,)

It was a telling time in the 16th century when Churches started to put up lightning rods, was it not?

lets face it if god was such a good hitman there would be no posters on this forum.

Corrected.

lets face it if god was real there would be no posters on this forum.

Except yourself of course

god gave us freedom of choice

Then she gave Adam and Eve the freedom of choice to eat whatever took their fancy, right? So what's the problem with the apple tree?

Lets face it if god was such a good hitman there would be no posters on this forum.

Let's face it, if your god was such a good hitman, there would be no Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Scientologists, Mormons, JW's, et al. Yes?

Given that your God created humans in the first place, she knew fine well what a imperfect and flawed beast we are, and then to bestow upon us freedom of choice, was foolish and reckless in the extreme. Unless she did it as a joke in the hope we'd self-destruct and save her the bother of finishing us off as a bad mistake, she retains culpability for our resulatant barbaric actions.

If you own several nervous excitable dogs, you do not let them loose in a crowd of people, sheep or whatever, then blame the dogs "freedom of choice" when everything gets bitten and chewed.

posiedon im glad your spending your very limited time dealing with an issue that to you does not exsist.

god created the world he dose not micro manage the weather/ earth. so its gods fault that you stub your toe or you trip up and break and arm. he also did not suggest that people build cities or live in flood prone areas.

c--p happens thats part of life.

god in my personal view does not care what or who you are its more what you do.

its funny that the marjority of people on this random gathering of atoms belive in a god. its only the rich westernised countries who think that man is all there is.

There are plenty of atheists in China and Russia. And many Buddhists are effectively atheists as well, given they believe Buddha was an ordinary bloke who wrote a book.

^^^

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ancient/cultures/sodom_gomorrah_01.shtml

According to the Bible, the men of Sodom 'were wicked, such sinners against the Lord, He decided to destroy them'. God allowed Lot, the one good man living there, to flee the town with his family, before God showed his wrath. But Lot's wife disobeyed God's warning not to look back towards Sodom as she fled, and she was turned into a pillar of salt, where she stood.

For the wicked people of Sodom, not even that escape was open to them: soon the Lord showed his displeasure, and 'rained down fire and brimstone... He destroyed everyone living there and everything growing in the ground'

Seems like he did a bit of killing after all.

Man? Millions. For God/in God's name? Mllions. But we're created in the perfect image of God, right? So it would make sense if human beings were murderous, racist, petty, xenophobic, homophobic people.

so your saying all of mankind is murderous, racist, petty, xenophobic, homophobic people, you have met some very funny church people if thats how you see people with a faith. again your placing the views of men as that of gods.

Men/Woman are gods though. Mankind are better (and worse) than God. Anything that God can (currently) do, man can do. Mankind can't perform miracles, but then neither can god, as far as we're aware.

God isn't needed in our society thanks to the microscope and the telescope, among other things. Even if god existed, it would be necessary to kill him.
