trout
Just out of interest - how do you access the Shetland-News news? I've added a poll at the top regarding this. Please feel free (aw go on ) to also add a little comment on here as to why you choose this method for viewing the headlines. Thanks. McFly
Via Shetlink of course! I'm never on any other website
Claudias
My various browsers all have Shetlink set as the home page so this site is visited many times each day. So,Shetland News is always available and a quick click on Home gives me the BBC news,an excellent arrangement. Thank you gents.
PoolHaddock
99% of the time I do it through Shetlink. Infact, I think Shetlink introduced me to it. The only times I do it through thier site is if there hasn't been an update on Shetlink in the morning, just before I go out. Usually the news will be on thier site before I head out. This has maybe only happened about three times though, so its hardly even worth the mention. It's a fantastic service. The stories are usually really well done too. Do the guys that run it get paid by anyone fir doin it?
Shoogler
As already pointed out, the site is run totally unsubsidised, and the guys make a living from getting further coverage in the P & J and the seafood trade press, plus the advertising revenue from the site. See previous explanation of how the site is able to operate.
Wheesht
As already pointed out, the site is run totally unsubsidised, and the guys make a living from getting further coverage in the P & J and the seafood trade press, plus the advertising revenue from the site. Maybe a bit of appreciation of the service wouldn't go amiss. Appreciation for a service? It's a business for heavens sake. Should it be subsidised at all? is that what you are suggesting? Presumably they derive income from the advertising and the work they sell on to other publishers like the P&J?
Heimdal
They are a News Agency, sending bits of local news to newspapers, other news agencies presumably, and get paid for any item which gets used.It can't cost too much to run the website, can it
Shoogler
You're got the wrong end of the stick Wheesht - read the rest of the thread. I am not suggesting anything about subsidies. I was merely pointing out the exact opposite and remarking that it was a compliment to the business when people missed it.
JAStewart
I think its perfectly ok for the website to temporarily close. These people need lives too.
