sheepshagger
The availability of pot in the UK has dropped of in the last few years and that will have a knock on effect up here. an approach like holland's would probably have the best effect in a place like Shetland. free the police up to concentrate on the smack and let the stoners get on with it. I've never seen anyone get out of it on pot and become violent, I've never known anyone to steel to fund a pot habit, I've never seen anyone go through withdrawal from pot like you see with smack. and I work in an industry that will not tolerate any drug use so no-one I know that smokes a bit of pot takes it to work with them but I've certainly been aware of folk taking smack to the rigs because they have no choice if they dont want to be rolling about the floor with cramps, sweats, the turds, spewing etc all symptoms of heroin withdrawalI've seen a big increase in smack use in the isles in the same period that pot has become scarcer. so I would say there has to be a link

EnglishinScotland
“Currently there are 211 problem drugs users that are accessing community drugs services in Shetland. There is a year on year increase in users. 211 is very many for Shetland surely? I mean, what's the entire population?
Fjool
'problem drugs users that are accessing community drugs services in Shetland' may include those seeking counselling for alcohol problems, right up to people with a methadone proscription. Where does this figure come from? It it ~0.1% of the population. I've no idea whether this is particularly high compared to other areas of the country, since I'm not sure how the 211 is arrived at. EnglishinScotland
It it ~0.1% of the population.. That makes Shetland about 210,000 people doesn't it? That can't be right.

Fjool
the 211 is a figure for problem drug users the alckie's have their own figures. An alcoholic is, by definition, a 'problem drug user'. Why do alcoholics get a special list?
sheepshagger
I don't decide how they make the lists but you could call in to harbour street and ask them why illegal drug users go there and alckies are at the back of slottie's
