Fifi
Last I heard, Sky couldn't offer their broadband package here as they use LLU (Local Loop Unbundling), which means that they have to install their own (or their providers) kit in to the exchanges. Something that is unlikely to happen here due to the population. This may have changed since then though. Best to check. No, still the same. I believe it's something like 70% coverage across the UK at the moment. I've recently opted for Sky Talk Freetime http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/skytalk which is free weekend & evening UK calls. Daytime calls are 3p min but I'm presuming that we'll still be able to use the override codes which we use at present for cheap daytime calls. Njugle
Just an update, sorry to bore you BT called back today and told me that they could no longer provide a replacement router as it is out of warranty, which is doubly infuriating as the thing started to malfunction whilst still under warranty and, also, during negotiations one of their operatives created the idea that our warranty only started in July, which is b-lox anyway. She also hung-up on me when i wouldn't accept that i had to buy a new one from them, very unprofessional and probably against the T&Cs of the call centre. She also refused to let me speak to a supervisor. That's it , i give up. BT are finished. The only phonecalls i'll be making will be to try and get some kind of compensation. trout
I trust you kept times and dates for everything? Write a very stern letter to their complaints department and post it with proof of posting. They'll have to reply to you in writing. Call centres can fob you off - and especially these muppet ones abroad.
Fifi
I was going to say pretty well exactly what Trout has said. I've learnt from experience to keep a note of everything that happens with dates in situations such as this. Don't bother with call centre operatives, phoning complaint lines, emails, etc. Write a very firm, but polite letter calmly listly what has happened and when. Letters can't be ignored. Tell them how long you have been a customer with them and say how disappointed you are with their service in this instance. Tell them what you would like to happen/what compensation you would like if you want, otherwise ask them what they are prepared to do to put this right. The only phonecalls i'll be making will be to try and get some kind of compensation.Interesting to see that the big Ts produce the same mass all around Europe ... The only consequence can be to quit the contract in such a situation. T-Com over here lost 800.000 customers in 2005, 1,5 million in 2006 and about 600.000 over the first three months 2007.Now they have started a new "customer friendly" action. New tariif scheemes with more transparency (and an average cut of about 20%), providing better technology, improved and cost free installation service at home and a radical change in handling call centre policies. Just one example: The call centre folks now have to confirm their names, date and time of a call on request on the end of any call - and the must confirm that via seperate e-mail if requested so that the customer will be enabled to justify his claims later. Pooks
I had to laugh at BT's marketing exercise a few months ago (maybe a year)? "1000's of people are coming back to BT each week", they failed to mention the tens of thousands that were leaving though.
Njugle
Bizarrely they called again today, firstly from India, then tranferrred the call to a british technical support centre, which i had spoken to once before months ago but the indians refused to transfer me to it agian at that time, and the lady there apologised for everything, conceded that our first complaint was logged four months ago and promised a new rtouter will be here by Friday. We'll see. I'm still finished with them i reckon, life's too short. There was in the midst of that call a comical interlude while on hold from the brit centre the indian fellow cut back in on the call, and was then repimanded by the brit lady for incorrect procedure. Cringe-worthy.
islandhopper
*GGG*Njugle, you will be wondering how often they will call you, after you have quit the contract.Had that just half a year ago: No call asking me whether I'm content with the service or not for about 20 years. After that one call a day trying to convince me of their quality and wanting me to come back ... until I e-mailed them to stop with this kind of telephone spam or I would report it to the "regulating authority" we do have over here. BigMouth
BT kept sending me marketing literature which I kept posting back to them with a note saying that I did not want to have their marketing literature posted to me. It kept coming nonetheless so I wrote them a letter and the gist was that I wont deal with BT until there is an alternative. The moment there is an alternative I will choose the other company. I got an ever so nice letter back from them apologising for the ceaseless crap (not their exact words I must admit) they were having shoved through my door. I appreciate that I must be one of very few houses in Shetland that don't have a landline, but I just don't need one. I can access the net elsewhere and I have a handful of SIM cards that I can use in a mobile phone. Why do I dislike BT? I think that it boils down to two things, they had a monopoly and often treat their customers like they still do, and the standing charge really grates on me, athough I have to admit that in real terms it is considerably less than it used to be. BigMouth
I am coming to the end of my BT contract for broadband and phones - anyone got any suggestions of who I should go to now? I have heard that Fast are really good as an ISP. UK based help line with a geographical (i.e. non rip-off) phone number. They have even been known to ring the customer back. http://www.fast.co.uk I have heard bad stories about Tiscali and Orange. I have heard that it is posiible to get interweb through the tele-visual device, but I have no knowledge of these things
Spinner72
Fast looks very interesting. Not least that it states a connection speed for me of up to 1.5Mb, despite .5 being the max offered by all the other ISPs i've tried. I've been with Tiscali a year now and the only fault they've had is not letting me pay them!
david
We've been with Plusnet since broadband became available in August 2005 and can't say we have had any problems with them. Very good speeds, Quite often watch downloads coming in at about 800kps! Support are pretty quick too.
