Roxy71
Any word on the fireworks this Friday night?
nautim
Yes the plans are to go ahead (weather permitting) this Saturday at the same time 7pm. If it is cancelled the decision will be made by mid afternoon at the latest and the reception at Clickimin and Islesburgh will know. Fingers crossed.... nautim
Too much rain and too much wind.... The fireworks are off. I don't know what the decision is about what to do with them, but I'll post up any new. I think that sometime around Christmas or New year was being suggested. Enjoy being home and dry! JustMe
Not unexpected given the forecast. New Year would be ok for us in the town but not for the rest of Shetland. Just a thought.

The shortest day? More likely than not to be wet and windy, but you never know...
tammienorrie
Why was it cancelled last night? It was a fantastic night last night, couldn't have been better. I see the post to cancel was at 9.30am, I didn't think it was bad even then?
tammienorrie
oops 11.30am

I see the post to cancel was at 9.30am, I didn't think it was bad even then? Simple.......at 11.30am it was pissing down with rain and all the forecasts seemed to be predicting more rain and high winds. Ah yes but is this hindsight not a wonderful thing. ArabiaTerra
It should be pointed out that the fireworkers start setting up the display in the morning and work all day to set up the 1/2 hour display you get at 7.30pm. It then takes them 'til 10.30ish at night to clear up and make the site safe. That's a long day in the pissing rain and wind and not something you start if there is a bad forecast which will probably force you to cancel anyway. It's a bit more complicated than taking a few rockets out of a box
tammienorrie
my apologies
nautim
Thank you ArabiaTerra for explaining a little about our day... It's disappointing when a show doesn't go ahead but we have to consider whether it's safe and whether there will be an audience.
Twerto
you save all the fireowrks now for Hogmanay or soemthing now..
Rasmie
Maybe the weather is too predictably unpredictable for such a large organized display. Perhaps the answer is smaller localised events that can be altered to the next fine night,,
Fjool
I heard on the radio that a lots of smaller community fireworks displays were having trouble affording the insurance required to stage such an event.
Muppet
Does anyone know what time the display is tonight? The article in the Shetland Times just said it was tonight but no time. I think it was 7 pm the times it was postponed rather than the 7.30 pm it has been in the past.
