It was in the national papers last week (well the Independant and Guardian anyway)

Quite a coup for Glasgow city centre. Get it up youz Edinburgh!

It's about time too. There's only one specialist Mac shop in Glasgow (Scot Sys near St. Georges Cross) but it's a rip off. There used to be a great peerie shop, run by a nutter, up a lane accross Byers Road from Ashton Lane, but it closed a few years ago

Given that Macs are over-priced, and have a trendy-wendy image, maybe Edinburgers would want it.

I'm a tad less than gutted though, I like to travel as far as possible to get ripped off for shucks hardware :P

Each to their own junior. One person's overpriced hardware is another's component part of a holistically designed OS/software/hardware combination

but there's already a thread on Mac vs PC

Here's a couple of links re: the new Apple store

That's excellent news! :D

You're right PB, Scotsys are rubbish, and incredibly slow.

I wanted to pick up an iPod when I was on the mainland in Glasgow so I dropped them an email to ask if they had one in stock. I didn't even get a response. Needless to say I crossed them off my list and bought it from Amazon.

It sounds like Glasgow needs a proper Mac store and it will hopefully put these plonkers out of business.

I visited the Apple store on Regent Street in the big smoke a couple of months ago and was very impressed with the way the place was layed out. It feels more like a library or gallery, and the emphasis is very much on trying things out for yourself. They have various scales of system set up, running every piece of Apple software imaginable and all the relevant periferal hardware to hand.

I'm sure the Glasgow one won't be as huge, but I still can't wait to get in and spend some quality drooling time over a Mac Pro running Final Cut Pro 5......... 8)

Can't understand what all the fuss is about all these macs anyway

Neither me. Mac users seem to get that religious glint in their eye when they're challenged about it though, so I learned long ago to step away from this debate and leave them to their delusions... ;)

BigMouth & fjool, I moved your Mac vs PC comments to the erm, Mac vs PC thread

Come on PC users. You've had a multitude of PC specialist shops all over Britain for years, who know zip about Macs. As soon as a Mac Store is announced and Mac users seem chuffed, the long knives come out

Hooray for the Mac Store!

I think it's just a fundamental difference between personalities. Like some people are 'cat people' and others not.

While the Mac user sees it as a member of the family; a friend and confidant, the PC user's view of a computer is that it's just a computer, a tool; not a child.

Consequently it's just a shop, not a new way-of-life. Why so excitied about a shop? The internet sells everything it already does. ;)
