What does everyone want for Christmas???

Something that isnt geared towards the kitchen, or made from chocolate (which i dont eat anyways), or heavily scented bathroom products (seriously sensative skin)

what i'd really really like is something that says "look, i spent more than 30secs thinking about you" We dont have such easy access to charity shops to offload all those repeat kitchen items & bath/lotion sets anymore.

What I'd really love, would be a huge pack of bulbs & seeds to get some flowers growing in the garden & greenhouse.

read this in sunday post and was very moved by it.

T'was the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,

In a one bedroomed house made of plaster and stone.

I'd come down the chimney, with presents to give,

And to see just who in this house did live.

I looked all about and a strange sight i did see-

No tinsel no presents not even a tree.

No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand,

On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands.

With medals and badges, awards of all kinds,

A sobering thought came into my mind.

For this house was different, it was so dark and dreary,

I found the home of a soldier, once i saw clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping,silent alone,

Curled up on the floor, in this one bedroomed home.

The face was so gentle, the room in disorder,

Not how i pictured a Great British soldier.

I realised the families that i saw this fine night,

Owed their lives to these men who were willing to fight.

Soon round the world, the children would play,

And grown ups would celebrate on Christmas day.

They all enjoyed freedom, each month of the year,

Because of the soldiers like this one lying here.

I couldn't help but wonder, how many lay alone,

On a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.

The very thought brought a large tear to my eye,

I dropped to my knees and started to cry.

The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice,

"Santa, don't cry, this life is my choice.

I battle for freedom, i don't ask for more.

My life is my god, my country, my corps"

The soldier rolled over, and drifted to sleep,

I couldn't control it i just had to weep.

It was so hard to leave on that cold dark night,

This gaurdian of honour, so willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over, and with a voice soft and pure,

Whispered "Carry on Santa all is secure"

One look at my watch, and i knew he was right.

"Merry Christmas my friend and to all a good night"

.........For people to stop asking me what I want for Christmas!

Oh how true that rings with me. I really don't like being asked. As i said to a loved one recently, when not only was i asked, but went on to discuss monetary value, i replied that the spirit of christmas had now collapsed to it's knees clutching in vain hope to the last tatters of diminishing 'magic'.:(

Not that i'm melodramatic about it or anything. :P

Snow - and surprises.

Santa's just beginning to take a grip here, and I hope he doesn't hasten. For birthdays, I usually get flowers, and from guys too; it's a different life. You learn to appreciate the small pleausres and Christmas is no different. This is a 80 or 90 percent Catholic country and we're not allowed to eat meat (or they, not I--but when in Rome and all that) on Christmas Eve. That's the big day here. We should fast, and then in the evening we eat twelve dishes starting with leven bread and wine; one dish for each day of Christmas (all fish and salad).

I'm not naive and I'm not a firm believer, but who am I to break with family tradition.

What do I want for Christmas? Everything I already have--To be loved and have a family who loves me, and for someone to explain to me what an ipod does, 'cause maybe I want one of them too!

WTF! Where does this quaint tradition come from? and Is fish not "fish meat"? Some of these quasi "religious" traditions really have me baffled. The catlicks dropped the fish eating thing years ago.

Papal infallibility? I don't think so.

Bairn just got a wee iPod nano for all her favourite shows etc (just like her uncle - the former drama teacher), it's soo easy just plug & play. It's all point & click. forgot how easy and user friendly Apple can be when they want to be. If a nine year old can do it, anyone can. I want one too, it's not fair
