If they are community owned, then the committee running it should be searching all avenues for funding, not just relying on the council. If they, or some are privately owned, then it is up to the owner. If they are owned by the council, then the council have a duty to maintain them. Is the suggestion that the council have not maintained the halls they are responsible for? The implication that you are an idiot seems to have been made by the alteration GR. Naughty editing. K66RNY Posted December 5, 2012 Report Share Posted December 5, 2012 I don't even want to get started on this. All I can say is, the SIC are a complete embarrassment. Council? I do not think so. Just a group of folk who seem to get away with making a series of terrible decisions, and never being held accountable for it. These are the actions of children! We should never have been in this mess to begin with, but despite their claims, they are doing very little to sort it, other than cutting important services! Maybe if/when SIC does go bankrupt, at least Mareel is making so much money, it can keep Shetland going. Several pages back I couldn't answer for every community hall in Shetland, but the ones I know of are held in trust, with trustees elected at an AGM. I think you did get and answer, but in case i'm wrong, i believe ALL community halls in Shetland are 'owned' by either independent Trusts or community groups of some form or other. None of the halls are owned by the council. Many (if not all) halls will have had some support grants for capital expenditure to upgrade/build new facilities in the past 30 years or more. I'm struggling to comprehend as to why they weren't told to go away and negotiate with their creditors and say come back in a month's time. Not long ago the SIC stated they were going to be more open and transparent yet the meeting was behind closed doors. SA 'bang on' about how Mareel is community owned yet their meeting too will be behind closed doors. Just how the hell do they expect the community, the so-called 'community owners' of Mareel, to get behind it and support it when we aren't furbished with all the facts? I don't recall where I read it so can't be sure, but I believe the meeting wasn't public because of ongoing commercial contract disputes of the AHS and Mareel. Interesting, but I don't think it would be appropriate to just know the outcome of the vote if we didn't know the evidence they were voting on?
