Here's a few of the latest images of the interior of Mareel - the full set of photos taken earlier this week, with additional info, can be viewed here - Mareel July 2010

The boddam three look a bit reminiscent of the bowels of some old castle and dungeon eenoo, it'll come it though wi a grain o' pent an sec laek.

Does that roughly translate as either lathe and plaster, plasterboard(ed), skimmed with two coats of emulsion applied?

Oops, I forgot to hack out and fill with epoxy resin any hairline cracks!

could it not have been more open plan.

There needs to be acoustic isolation between the auditorium, cinema, recording studio, rehearsal rooms etc and the public areas such as the foyer and cafe bar are all large and spacious with glass panel walls

fair enough i just hate breeze blocks. what is the finish on the walls any chance of art works

apparently , its three months behind schedule and over budget for the amount of work done !

Not according to Gwylim Gibbons

I am also pleased to report that we are still on budget and on time thanks to the efforts of our Design Team and DITT Construction Ltd.

There's a big picture of it on the gavel end of the DITT on-site office and it shows that the building will be clad in some kind of silver sheeting.

In my humble opinion it still looks dreadful and is yet another wasted/lost opportunity(like the new mueum) to bring a bit of fresh and imaginative design to Shetland architecture. The overall problem is we're "employing the wrong architects" i.e Shetland and Scottish ones who seem incapable of designing anything that doesn't resemble an old scottish croft house(see new flats next to Lerwick Hotel as an example)....

And on this note I just dread to think what the new AHS will look like.....
