peeriebryan
Here's a few of the latest images of the interior of Mareel - the full set of photos taken earlier this week, with additional info, can be viewed here - Part of the main auditorium from the balconyhttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4093/4794352166_05b3ba9571.jpg Top floor creative industry space / teaching room (the chap in the left of the photos gives an idea of scale. He's a fairly average height!)http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4135/4793706753_320565d170.jpg Recording studio control room, looking into live roomhttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4093/4794268418_71f20869f3.jpg Recording studio live room, looking into control roomhttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4794263356_dcbd0a1399.jpg Cafe Bar - looking toward the foyer (there will be glass panel wall where the barriers are situated)http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/4793736073_a5349f1014.jpg

Does that roughly translate as either lathe and plaster, plasterboard(ed), skimmed with two coats of emulsion applied? Oops, I forgot to hack out and fill with epoxy resin any hairline cracks! paulb
its a modern art installation. either that or a lot of breeze block use. could it not have been more open plan.
peeriebryan
could it not have been more open plan. There needs to be acoustic isolation between the auditorium, cinema, recording studio, rehearsal rooms etc and the public areas such as the foyer and cafe bar are all large and spacious with glass panel walls
Guest Raven007
apparently , its three months behind schedule and over budget for the amount of work done !
Gorgonzola Butt-cheese
I reckon it could be easily converted into a whitefish processing plant, so maybe it winna be a complete waste of money after aa....

Twerto
breeze blocks I would expect are jsut there asa structural form and im sure will e hidden behind some form of finishing, it not a leasure center after all ( well i dont think it is )
MuckleJoannie
apparently , its three months behind schedule and over budget for the amount of work done ! Not according to Gwylim Gibbons http://www.shetlandarts.org/first-images-of-the-mareel-recording-studio/ I am also pleased to report that we are still on budget and on time thanks to the efforts of our Design Team and DITT Construction Ltd. Kavi Ugl
There's a big picture of it on the gavel end of the DITT on-site office and it shows that the building will be clad in some kind of silver sheeting. In my humble opinion it still looks dreadful and is yet another wasted/lost opportunity(like the new mueum) to bring a bit of fresh and imaginative design to Shetland architecture. The overall problem is we're "employing the wrong architects" i.e Shetland and Scottish ones who seem incapable of designing anything that doesn't resemble an old scottish croft house(see new flats next to Lerwick Hotel as an example).... And on this note I just dread to think what the new AHS will look like.....
