Far Haaf
Reading this topic. It's Doomed. Brighten up for God's sake, some of you lot are worse than McPhail on the Vital Spark. (Sorry Para Handy for mentioning one of your crew members, but you know what I mean)I think JustMe maybe hit the nail on the head in an earlier post. The Shetland Public should vote for who they want as the opening act.

Rumours have been circulating in some quarters that the budget was spiralling out of control, but he said such talk was entirely without foundation." Presumably the main contractor will have to pay their staff during this four month delay (caused by three weeks of bad weather). If costs aren't "spiralling out of control" then somebody somewhere is taking a big hit and there must be "financial repercussions", no? Even in his world of Monopoly money Mr Gibbons must recognise that?
peeriebryan
^ The contract to build Mareel is on a fixed price, so no it won't affect the project costs I'm sure delays will have implications for the contractor but that's the contractor's business and a matter of commercial sensitivity. As the biggest contractor in Shetland, I think it's safe to say they have experience of similar weather related delays and have contingency in place

anorthernsoul
Re Dennis Stratton of Iron Maiden being offered to local promoters by whoever and them not being interested........ He wasn't offered to us either, although i have to say we probably wouldn't have taken him up. His link with Iron Maiden is fairly tenuous, he was the second guitarist in the band for 1 year (only because Adrian Smith originally turned down the job) and he is the only member of Iron Maiden who has never contributed to the songwriting process. We had Paul Dianno, the original vocalist in Iron Maiden, up here 5 years ago and struggled to get 300 to the gig, so i think even with the most ardent Iron Maiden fans attending, it would be a struggle to make ends meet on this. While we're on the subject of the mighty Maiden (who i'm hoping to catch in Aberdeen on the 21st July!!) we have the UK's premier Iron Maiden tribute band, Maiden Scotland, up later in the year. Details soon.....
