Equality Street
I watched that Prometheus film in 3D sooth recently. Has to be seen to be believed. Will the Mareel cinema have 3D capabilities? They'll have missed a trick if it doesn't, especially since all the other provisions seem (rightly or wrongly) to be pretty much state-of-the-art. Forgive me if this has been answered already, but the prospect of trawling through this whole thread to check does not appeal.

Assuming it has a digital cinema screen rather than a projector, it'll have the capability to show 3D movies. Bare in mind, digital cinema screens are extremely expensive so it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't have one!
nederlander
How about an opening night on the 20th of July for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES?
JohanofNess
How about an opening night on the 20th of July for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES? I'm telling you Mareel should be opened with a classic movie marathon Blazing SaddlesSmokey and the BanditRaiders of the lost ark

MuckleJoannie
Mareel has enormous potential for creative industries in Shetland. Let's hope the running of it is not dogged with problems like the construction has been.

Fatal Paper Cut
Assuming it has a digital cinema screen rather than a projector, it'll have the capability to show 3D movies. Bare in mind, digital cinema screens are extremely expensive so it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't have one! As I understand it, the projectors are both digital, which will allow for 3D. It also substantially reduces the costs to the running of a cinema, since traditional 35mm movies come on several large, heavy cans which are extremely expensive to transport, to say nothing of having to lace them up in the projector, which all takes time. MJ
I personally dont like 3d movies. I wear glasses and the 3d glasses dont fit over my glasses. so i can see diddly squat anyway! I know that one, I was so excited about being able to watch 3D movies when I got contacts, but no they really look that bad even without the added hassle of glasses under the 3D ones.
