Ghostrider
You need a fourth option. "Yes, but not in the proposed location/per current building plans/management structure/operators".That's a bit long! I added "yes, but not current proposal" Umm....Yeah, that would be me, never use 3 or 4 words where a dozen or a score can do.
trout
SHETLAND'S planned £8.8 million cinema and music venue should open its doors in the spring of 2010, the local arts agency confidently claimed yesterday . . . Wheesht
Undecided because I would like to see the business plan which would include detailed projected runing costs and income streams.
JustMe
Have I missed something or has any notion of consultation with potential users before choosing a design somehow got lost. Seems to me that once the debate on the "venue or not" issue went in favour of the venue there was a long silence and we now have plans ready to go out to tender. Since this is yet another project using "public" money surely it would have been right for the public to be consulted at every stage. Oh well.....we can always object to planning permission being granted.
madcow
^^^ You're right. No consultation yet again. Also the proposals are no bigger than what we already have - the garrison theatre holds about 270 and the new cinema will hold 160, the music hall 350. Not a lot of difference there. I think the Arts Trust have the plans etc at their offices for folk to look at, and at the library.
peeriebryan
There was a public consultation meeting in the Clickimin on 2nd and 3rd September last year which was advertised in the Shetland Times (and there has been several more which I have been unable to attend) It was primarily targeted towards 'users' rather than 'punters', but it was open to anyone with an interest It was a very constructive meeting and folk had the chance to put questions to the Arts Trust and the architects If you want to know more, contact Kathy Hubbard from the Arts Trust If you'd like to see the plans, ask any questions, discuss any aspects of the project directly, please call me on 01595 744986, it would be great to hear from you. Ghostrider
Seems like there's a very realistic chance there will be no Venue unless and until the Fuel Depot moves on, a legacy of Buncefield and the HSE getting fussy.... The Health and Safety Executive is insisting that "consultation zones" be established around the seven fuel tanks sited at Lerwick's North Ness, along with 50 other sites throughout Britain. This zoning means the HSE would question any future developments within a 400 metre radius of the tanks, which contain diesel, petrol and aviation fuel. The agency has said it will particularly frown on housing and major social developments. http://www.shetland-news.co.uk/news_06_2007/Fuel%20tanks%20now%20threaten%20venue%20hopes.htm

RickB
Anything wrong with them showing some real oldies........or modern "artistic" films shot in black and white?. It looked like a clip from a so called "artistic" film where they rely on sex to sell the movie.
Marooned in Maywick
Look at the picture on the screen in page 25. what kind of films are they planning to show? Never mind that....is that the typical size of audience they're expecting?A handful watching and a few more drittling in late, or leaving early. Ghostrider
^^^ In all probability, unfortunately, a handful plus a few coming and going during, is going to be the "average" audience they're likely to get for your "average" "family" film. It's all the old pictir hoose got back in the day before videos/DVDs/computer game etc etc, so why any more should be thought likely to attend in this time of life is a mystery to me. humptygrumpty
Looks like twa lean-to joined together , and part of it is only 4.0 - 4.5 M above their 0.00mm datum at sea level , so is in breach of the current "policy" that others have to adhere to when extending , or building a new house , which is that no new builds under 5M from high water mark. Maybe one rule for them and another for the rest o wis...Again.
