Roachmill
I'm sure Tesco will also wield their Buying-Power-Club-of-Doom to force local supplier prices down. Which is nice
JAStewart
If that is the case I'm equally sure that local businesses will take their business elsewhere. I'm going to shop at Tesco for sure, but I'd still rather go to the local shop and get Shetland Milk if it wasn't stocked at Tesco.
PJ of Hildisvik
Buying Shetland milk is all well and good, but if for health reasons you want skimmed milk, as far as i can see , they dont supply it.i believe the process involved in skimmed milk is more expensive to produce. shetland milk is more pricey as well, compared to supermarkets own, but shetland milk is better quality. cravendale is good, also lasts longer. The hurdle Tescos have to over come is to get fruit and veg on the shelves before its sell by date, this would make a big difference, compared to what we get at the moment. MJ
Going to ask a really daft question, but does shetland dairies provide local milk in supermarket branding, like the "local" dairies south do?
JAStewart
How do you mean?
Pooks
I am presuming that MJ is wondering if Shetland Farm Dairies rebrand their products as 'Somerfield Milk' or suchlike. To my knowledge they have never done this.
Guest Anonymous
^^^^God forbid Shetland Milk gets rebranded No, seriously I'm 99% sure it doesn't. As a point of curiosity, what does a pint of milk cost in Shetland now? Last I remember was about 72pCheap compared to our local milk at about £1.20/litre. Malcolm
I see the store will be closed for about 5 weeks after Tescos take it over, The Co-op's going to be tighter than a free call phone box on Princes street!

Guest posiedon
As well as having huge megastores, Tesco also like to have lots of "convenience" stores, usually within walking distance of each other.I think it's an even money bet that they will take on the Staney Hill shop for starters, then the shops on the street had better be on their guard, Tesco is a predatory and ruthless organization.
