Guest Anonymous
I was interested to see Ghostrider mention Hitachi, as not being a 'Cheap Tat' brand. We bought a Hitachi which cost only about 10% more than the, made in god knows where, Beon/Beko/Orion/etc.. OK, maybe that extra £40 odd quid was a waste, and maybe the cheaper one would last just as long, In which case I've wasted money, but I have a feeling that a decent brand name may be easier to get repaired than a cheap brand if it breaks down within a reasonable lifespan. TVs aside though, I'm damned if I'd pay 40 quid for a toaster or a kettle with a name like Hitachi/Philips/Sony/or whatever on it. Experience has proved that the cheap small kitchen appliances are better value.. With the exception of food processors/mixers, in which case the Kenwood Chef is the only thing worth buying as they go on for ever, and no matter how old a Chef you've got you can still get the spares.... I'll bet that everybody on here who owns a Kenwood Chef will agree with that.
ml
I know its slightly off topic but just for info with regards to Pixmania - we tried to get a TV from them - reason for not delivering was "it's a two person job !!" Of note we ended up getting a tv from Alantic Energy. Just so happens they are part of the same subsiduary that has Scottish Hydro Electric. TV was 60 POUNDS CHEAPER and delivery was quick and cheap. Salmon
TESCO - Prices, ethics and experiences...... A very interesting development to our shopping norm since TESCO arrived in SHETLAND is the acceptance of the SHOPPING BAG.....for years we have all relied on grocery stores wee plastic bags to carry our purchases home........ How many of us have been surprised by the ease of using reusable shopping bags ????....i have and i wonder now why i was so against the concept prior to the lets go green campaign.... When the TV and National news announced that supermarkets were under pressure to stop issuing PLASTIC BAGS for customers to carry there purchases home......i ( as many ) thought ...how inconvenient...but the opposite is true.........no more staggering up the garden path hoping the bottom would hold in the eight plastic bags you were carrying. My mum had Shopping bags now i have shopping bags too.....that's one full circle....

MuckleJoannie
What's everyone's experience of Tesco tatties? I've bought their prepacked ones a few times and they always seem to be on the verge of going rotten when you open the plastic bag. In fact I opened a bag I got on Thursday tonight and had to throw out a couple that were rotten. I've never seen this problem with Coop or Somerfield tatties. Njugle
Ref: Shopping bags Three generations of my family use their own bags and always have done. Nothing revolutionary here. Only exception is when shopping unexpectedly locally, and then all the bags get used for potentially harmful or smelly food waste. (meat off-cuts and the like). Best of the lot are the 'square-ish' bags the same size as the trolley for supermarket shopping. Really handy and they last for years. I think the co-op actually promoted them at one time, but i think you can still get them from Kleeneze or Lakeland.

In fact I opened a bag I got on Thursday tonight and had to throw out a couple that were rotten. I've never seen this problem with Coop or Somerfield tatties. Interesting, i've got to say the complete opposite. I heaved half a bag of coop totties to the woolies earlier and am converted to Tesco's at least for now. I can only vouch for the economy/value/everyday whatever they are (cheapest) as the idea o wan tottie bein worth more dan annider is frankly ridiculas tae me. Tesco's current batch ir just like fine young totties. However long it lasts is another question Heartenng to see that as the thread goes on the fact its "just another shop" becomes clearer and clearer. I do have to vouch for their own brand baked beans though - obviously just Heinz with a different label, unlike the watery hellery the coop brands (possibly branston??) insouciant
The Co-op use biodegradable packaging for many products (apple bags etc) and the some products from the organic range (tomatoes, peppers) have compostable packaging.
