Supermarkets in Shetland - prices, ethics and experiences

what is the Co-Op like in Brae? I never knew they was one there, I am new to Shetland and you properly can guess so still finding my way around. Just wondering if it would be economical to drive to Yell and get the ferry then a bus to Brae instead of going into Lerwick.

Also sorry for changing subject but where can I get a Passport photo done in the Shetland Isles? I live on Unst.

There is a Co-op in Brae, but the one in Lerwick is bigger. So if you didn't need an awful lot, then the Brae one might be worth the bother, but the Lerwick one is better if you're doing a big shop.

And if I were you I'd stick with Dennis Coutts for passport photos - the ones in the booth in Somerfield tend to come out quite dark. Dennis Coutts would be more expensive but the quality is better.

Unfortunately so.

But for someone who only went to tescos for cheap clothes or light bulbs I'm kind of left wondering, what they'll be selling up here in such a small store worth buying. Their food isn't up to much.

It will be nice to see stock on the shelves in prestos/safeway/morrisons/summerfield/(soon to be)tescos though.

I hope that Tesco will be a bit more competitive than Safeway or Somerfield were although I certainly do not expect to see vastly lower prices. Of course competition can also be on quality, variety and service so my hope is that they are so good that the Co-op has to improve as well or face selling out to Lidl.

Wonder if this will mean we also get Tesco direct so we can get non food goods at Tesco prices.
