Some of the country shops are apparently showing signs of feeling the pinch already, the "Tesco effect" in action. Mind and spread your money around if you want to keep them. There's a lot to be said for having a local shops to nip to for a pint of milk and a loaf. If they go, it's unlikely they'd be replaced. In my humble opinion.

Well, I go to the new butcher in town, don't buy any meat from either Tesco or the Co-Op. I fully support the new butcher and their venture 100%.

Btw, their beef olives are superlative and the chicken version ain't bad either! Best I have ever had!

Just had the chicken olives they tasted ok but £12.00 for 3 of them was a bit expensive for what was jut a chicken breast with a white pud inside it I'm sure making your own would be cheaper

We've completely given up shopping in the big supermarkets!

It's been months since we done the big weekly shop as we seemed to be spending a huge amount of money each weekend in Co-Op or Tesco but still needing bits and pieces from the local shop all week, so we cut out the supermarkets, ocasionally for fresh fruit we nip in but thats about it!

Best part is the stress free weekend without the hassle of it all!

Hopefully you would fing your local shop has fresher, local produce, that is acclimed to where you live, hence, it tastes better, lasts longer and if seasonal, will be cheaper...

We buy from a supermarket here called Booths, 50% of its stock is Local, and although a little more expensive than similat it lasts 3 times as long, so we get to eat it all..

they have no chance if tescos want in they will get in. rossendale council turned them down when they wanted to build one there so they bought a bankrupt garden centre and converted it. no planning consent needed as it was a retail unit. they now have two in rossendale plus a asda and a number of coops and a small morrisons. weard that there high street is now dying rapidly.

I worked outside both the Big Tesco and Asda in Rawtenstall..

The town centre shopping mall is a discrace, the only shops I remember still there was Crack Converters and the Post Office..

The market has scaled down and folk have put on weight..

Even the Queens pub is suffering....

All the shops opp Fire Station are closing and the carpet place by the fancy cafe seems to be ok..

Rawtenstall has been vandalised by these massive stores..

Oh yer, if you do ever go to Rawtenstall, have a go at the chip shop near the Queens, tha bakers next door is as good...

And is the herb place still near it??

But the Library is a wonderfull looking building as with the hall near the garage.
