markj Posted February 19, 2007 Report Share Posted February 19, 2007 What are people's thoughts on Delting FC joining the Highland League? they are by far the best team in Shetland and after watching Cove vs Deveronvale on saturday I think they could hold their own. Currently Whalsay, on their day would be unlucky no tae beat them. Dis highland league has to be a good idea tho, mibbe a shetland team playin wid be food fir thought! I think da island games champions wid mare as hold their own in dat league. If shetland entered da highland league wid they be able ta go intae da qualifiers fur da Scottish Cup? Gaffer Posted February 19, 2007 Report Share Posted February 19, 2007 Shetland will not be allowed to enter Highland league competitions. This has been made quite clear by the association that governs the league and cups. Too much opposition amongst their member clubs, both Highland League and NCL. A offer was put forward at one of their meetings to allow a Shetalnd team to compete in their cups. There is an odd number of teams so there was no competition problems. Shetland offered to play all games away from home at no cost to Highland League. It was vetoed as Shetland is a select side, is not affiliated to SFA, and it would not send out the correct signal to North Caledonian League (effectively the Highland League's 2nd division).
