phil
Been to Taipei, Bangkok, Pattaya, Kuala Lumpur and just about to leave Hong Kong for Vancouver. Then the best part of this (overly long) trip, up into the BC interior for some fun! http://www.flyingu.com/
phil
I'm off to the beach here on Bowen Island to go swimming. Might take the boat out and go swimming way offshore, around the islands. It's the last long weekend of the summer here - Labour Day, and the kids go back to school on Tuesday. I'm off to Bangkok and Pattaya again on Tuesday, for 10 days. Then back for the weekend and off to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Home for a weekend in Vancouver then off to Cambridge for a week - and that was September (and summer) gone! phil
Air Canada threatening to go on strike on Wednesday. Could be bad as I will be on the other side of the country when this kicks off, trying to get home from Nova Scotia. Might just have to eat more Lobster! phil
Quick business trip and night stop in Washington DC, on the way back from Thanksgiving in New Brunswick. Yet another Air Canada flight attendants strike averted today! More travel next week, but not sure where - either the UK or Florida then Texas. I'm tired.... kellyyy
I plan to go to Berlin next summer. I will buy the flights now, because it's cheaper and I will already start to plan what I want to do. I've never been there before and I'm really looking forward to it. I heard it's a great city. I plan to visit all capitals of Europe in my life!
EM
I plan to go to Berlin next summer. ... I heard it's a great city.It is indeed an excellent place. Expect the unexpected though, despite its size it will seem quite village-like initially. Most of the things which make Berlin vibrant and cosmopolitan are not immediately "in your face," but rather are more hidden away. It is quite unlike any other city of its size. unlinkedstudent
We are off to Cuba in February and will be on the island for 3 weeks. Anyone on Shetlink been there? I've been twice, once to Guardalavaca and the other to Jibacoa. I've also ventured down to Santiago de Cuba. Feel free to drop us a pm as Cuba is like no other place on earth to visit and there are a lot of things to consider (Such as tipping not in dosh but with coloured embroidery thread, paracetamols, razors, etc.) It is great to get out and about in Cuba but many of the locals, including the taxi drivers, have not ventured further than say 10 miles. English is spoken by many and it is not uncommon for staff within resorts to be educated to Masters level, or at least a first degree. Deffo pack a bog roll (or ten), Factor 30 plus sun screen but no video cameras as they are banned in Cuba. Deffo pack the old Imodium wotsits too - food is very much hit and miss with the top end chain Melia hotels being better than most. I'll never forget the fact that the mash potato and also the coleslaw tasted as if it had washing powder in it. At the other end of the scale, I've never tasted such brilliant freshly squeezed orange juice in my life. Varadero is as boring as hell. Havana is great. Any chance of you picking us up a bottle of the gold Santiago de Cuba rum while you there then - I'll gladly give you the dosh upfront! Hope you have a fantastic time - God I'm jealous, I want to go back.
daveh
Thanks for the reply. We have recently seen some reports that it may not be the a great place to visit, safety-wise, so we will be on our guard at all times and not take any risks when there. It looks to be a fascinating place to visit and we will be spending 5 days in Havana as well as going to various places across the island.I hadn't read anything previously about taking bog rolls so I will take a couple just to make sure but we are largely staying in hotels so they would surely need to be a bit rough if you had to provide your own. On trip advisor, they look to be ok. Not sure about bringing any alcohol back. We always take our full limit of baggage allowances with us and very rarely bring anything back with us other than a couple of t-shirts.With luck and a good lottery win, you might get back there again so be hopeful !
