On Radio Orkney this morning, Council are to spend £645,000 installing solar PV panels on 65 of it's houses, comes just under £10,000 per property.

Cost reduction per tenant said to be £270 and £1000 to Council annually through the feed in tariff scheme, total payback time of 8 years.

Any reason why our cutting edge SIC cannot do something similar ?

i am honestly wary that solar pv panels could do so well in shetland, in winter its dark alot and in summer although light the whole time we dont loads of lovely sunny days (my lack of suntan speaks for itsel :( ) is the annual payback based on average uk sunlight or orkney's?. am sure/hope the council would have already looked at the figures for such a scheme, and worked out it wasn't worth it.

I would assume ( maybe wrongly ) that OIC have done their sums re payback time but would also be sceptical as to whether it could be a goer unless possibly here in the deep south where the sun always shines !

Obviously the people at Busta House thought it was a goer at one time though no longer operational. :-

link to Alstom and its wave energy convertor planned for Costa Head project off Orkney, looks a much more robust set up than the " snake ". :-

Yeah, I like this one. Looks a lot more practical than the Pelamis.

probably 50/50 yes/no

".....where they will directly benefit local communities".

going to be a fun one to define that

the 50 that says yes will say viking will benefit the 50 who say no will say its harmful

clear as mud and helps nothing

Yes a very controversial issue.

Ma'be we need a referendum !!!!

--------------
Edinburgh-based Nova Innovation announced the integration of its “tidal array” to Tesla battery storage to provide “clean power”, resulting in “the world’s first grid-connected ‘baseload’ tidal power station”.

Oh good, we are getting a battery, hopefully that means less power cuts.
