When people who are anti abortion are talking about it, they seem to fail to realize that two peoples lives can be ruined. I'd love to see all these religious kooks having to raise a kid as a single parent on minimum wage with f-all benefit. Maybe then they might realize why abortion is appropriate. fratelli Posted April 11, 2007 Report Share Posted April 11, 2007 My opinion is that in the instance of rape or severe disabilities it is definitely understandable but I really don't agree with 'convenience' abortions, which seem to be commonplace nowadays. I know a few girls who have had two or maybe three abortions because the pregnancy was unplanned or badly timed. I'm sorry, but sometimes people should face their responsibilities. If you are adult enough to have sex, you should be responsible enough to practice safe sex. fratelli Posted April 11, 2007 Report Share Posted April 11, 2007 Yeah a bit of a minefield with a million different answers but my own personal opinion would be a disability which is known to endanger the life of the mother or foetus. Many foetus are aborted with conditions which mean they will not survive childbirth, which is understandable in my view. This, again, is my take only... I used to think that it should be up to the woman, but after seeing some photos of the foetus in this period you could abort, it looked like a human person to me, so that changed my mind on the whole subject. Njugle Posted April 12, 2007 Report Share Posted April 12, 2007 There was an interesting documentary on the other night which i caught a snippet of, in passing, in which they were discussing the cases of a number of parents who had born fairly severely handicapped bairns, and the trend within it was that although the parents loved their kids and would do and had done everything for them, given a better description of the children's medical conditions at birth they would have let them die then and there. It was further revealled that until fairly recent times children born with obviously serious abnormalities were injected with terminal doses of medicines at birth without the parents knowledge as the doctors viewed it as "the right thing to do", given the hardship and suffering that would ensue if all life was preserved as it is now. Kind of puts a different slant on early termination of serious problems. Changed days indeed. On a lighter note. I do have issues with abortion being so readily available on the public health service, but that can be said of many other medical "procedures" they also make readily available, so it's not abortion specific. However, if she can source privately a properly qualified medical professional willing to undertake the procedure, then it's on her head, and her's alone, how she chooses to proceed. However I don't think the way to make copulating couples face their responsibilities is to limit womens' access to abortions. The UK has far too many teenage parents to my mind, and too many of them are single girls. Other European countries that have available abortion don't share the UK's problem.
