peeriebryan
Anybody know of any free Wi-Fi hotspots? There's a few in Glasgow I use. The Mitchell and Hillhead libraries have hotspots, but you need to be a library member to access them (not much use for a Shetlander on the move) I believe Costa coffee, and probably Starbucks, has hotspots. I think GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art) is also Wi-Fi-ed I've just had a phonecall from a mate sitting in a pub around Charing Cross with a hotspot. £2.50 a pint and Wi-Fi. Hooray!!!! Blutered in the name of university work (I'm off to the pub to do my homework, darling!!!) I'll let you know what it's like later in the day....... Muppet
what is Wi-Fi. Wireless hotspot. I guess it's a bastardisation of Hi-Fi.
peeriebryan
what is Wi-Fi.Wireless hotspot. I guess it's a bastardisation of Hi-Fi.Aye, it's a high speed wireless connection protocol, commonly used for connecting devices to the internet. All you need is a wireless router (usually around £30 more expensive than a standard router) or similair, then you can connect your computer etc to the net without cables. You could have a computer in every room of your house, all connected to the net from a single wireless router. Tons of pubs, libraries, cafes etc have 'hotspots' (places where you can wirelessly connect to the net). It's taken off big time on the mainland. I've got a peerie key ring that tells me when I'm in a hotspot. You can whip out your laptop and connect to the net (as long as the network isn't password protected, but there's ways around that!) peeriebryan
Where did you get the keyring peeriebryan? I've never seen one of them!I got mine on eBay. I think it was about £10. Have a Google for "Wi-fi keyring" Mine is the same as this one. It's the bee's knee's The only drawback with that one is you have to press a button to check. An automated one that lets out a beep or something would be better. I'm sure somebody must make them

Anyhow, this is kinda getting off topic! Be good to get a list of a few free hotspots.
trout
Probably needs the button so you don't waste the battery in the thing needlessly. Guess you could open it up and attach one of those 9v mommas to it with a reduction circuit to have it on the whole time. Need a big pocket though!
