Postage Rip Off

Aaargh!!

I used Google checkout to get a further £10 off a Roberts Radio that had already been reduced by £15 by Empire Stores. I had a call yesterday morning to say that there was a £15 surcharge to send to Shetland. This radio comes in a box about half the depth of a shoe box and weighs less than two pounds. They wont use the Post Office as that is not their standard carrier.

Ok point one......have they taken any money from you yet. If they have then they might well be in breach of contract trying to add a surcharge later on if there is no mention of it in their terms and conditions or in their checkout process. Otherwise they can wriggle out of it. (just checked and a surcharge is listed in their t&c).

Point two........it is fair enough that a busy despatch department could not use an alternative method of shipping. And as we know to our cost many carriers do charge extra for deliveries to Shetland.

Point three.......do you have a reliable friend on the mainland who could accept the delivery and then post it on to you?.

When I worked in a busy despatch department we HAD to tailor the deliveries to be the cheapest for the customer. It was called service or the personal touch. These days companies don't have to bother.
