Fifi
where do I start?......Exactly. You'd need a fortnight to comment on everything but even right at the top of the front page, declaring it's "SHETLAND NEWSLETTER OF THE YEAR" implies it has won an award.. There is certainly some controversial stuff in there! Nelson Smith anti same sex couples being allowed to adopt children and Stuart Hill's dubious medical advice, telling people that high cholesterol is good, and saying that doctors are "hard working and well meaning" but they rarely have time to research and "need all the help they can get from their patients". ??!! I wonder what medical qualifications he has..? And then he has Pete Docherty judging a youth poetry competiton?! 8O Giving the people of Shetland a voice is a laudable aim but it does come across as being a bit of a soap box for Stuart Hill. JustMe
First impressions count for a lot and if this is the best it gets then I do not expect it to last long. If on the other hand this is just an on-line peek at what will be a real paper version delivered to our doors then perhaps the real version will be better. Seems to have got a lot of advertisers to sign up so far and reaching every house in Shetland is a plus over the Shetland Times. The cholesterol bit reads like an "advertising feature" but raises a several valid points including the doubts over "statins" prescribed for high cholesterol which may well do more harm than good for many patients. Issue 2 could be interesting.
north
At 75p, I would estimate the democratic turn-out to vote might be on the low side, and barely representative of the Shetland Electorate. If you compare it to how many vote when its free, I wonder how many will vote when they actually have to pay. If food is such good medicine, then I'm off to the chippy for some more health food! Hey, lets see what issue two brings.
sludgegulper
I'm not up to much on the building of web sites but it does look a bit amateurish to me.

breeksy
LOL @ the muckle poll. First poll - do you want the muckle poll or not? Hmmm, how many people that don't want it will pay 75p to tell them .....?!?
JAStewart
Yeah doesn't exactly seem a recipe for success. I got asked to contribute something to it by Mr Hill, and so I emailed him and he never replied. Fair enough.
Fjool
A lot of work has obviously gone in to this newsletter.
SJD
Alarm bells always begin to ring immediately someone seeks to designate something or other as 'independant'. From what, to what, about what? Have you noticed those prospective SIC councilllors who have specifically sought to identify themselves as such. I wonder whether the people that actually know them well would agree? In this particular case if Stuart Hill is behind it then it certainly is not any definition of the word independant that I have heard of!He has the biggest axe to grind this side of mavis and the largest shetland chip on his shoulder which has led him into the weirdest political nonsense since the monster raving loony set.I suppose this means that we shall go through yet another non shetland forest for the joy of receiving this rubbish through the door. Great! Why do elections always bring out the best in people?

Fifi
I suppose this means that we shall go through yet another non shetland forest for the joy of receiving this rubbish through the door.Printing and putting out a copy to every household in Shetland isn't going to be cheap as well as the non-Shetland forest which has sacrificed its life to the cause.. When you consider the number of households with internet access nowadays, it seems a bit of overkill to have an online copy as well as a paper one to every household. I wonder if he'll include the option to opt out of the paper version for those who would prefer not to receive it. Ah well, recycled paper logs here we come.. Rasmie
Its (** MOD EDIT **) setting sail again, this time on paper only.Probably quite an intelligent person, just what we need to advise us (shetlanders) on what to do, where to build- especially on the girlfriends land in F******r. I suppose at least he is on dry land and not causing mayhem on the ocean.
