I have to ask, what is the point in Prince Harry joining the British Army if he can't do the job at the end of the day? I commend him in his, "I don't want to be treated any different", quote but he is still a Prince at the end of the day. He WILL be treated different. How many extra staff will be there to look over the prince in case he is maltreated, or worse, shot at?

If he is prepared to join the army then he should be prepared to undertake any consequences that may come with it. Same as any other soldier out there.

Most soldiers would be reprimanded if they said they couldn't do the job because granny thought it would be better if I was marching outside her house instead.

There's a strong historical tradition of nobility 'fighting the cause'. It's really why we have a Monarch - someone with an army who can sort out the bad guys for us. Seems little more than a figure-head if they're not prepared to allow him to go. Nobody is forcing him; the guy wants to do what he knows is his responsibility and good on him for not expecting to shirk his duty.

Or... maybe he's quietly saying 'Halp! I dun wanna go?!' and is being 'forbidden'. It's important for the monarchy that he saves face in all this I guess.

We had a (non-combatant) royal come to visit us in one of the safest parts of Northern Ireland in the times of the troubles. I was involved in the security operation and you have never seen so many people involved to stop the terrorists taking a pot-shot at them.

The Irish terrorists could be a frightening set of people, but they pale into insignificance when you compare them to the terrorists in Iraq. When the Irish blew themselves up with a bomb it was an accident. Some Iraqis go out of their way to blow themselves up taking as many others with them as they can.

Harry will just be a target and he will bring the fire down on his soldiers. Best thing he can do is stop playing at soldiers and get back back to his real world, one of excess privilege. What are the Army top brass are thinking about?[/i]

Probably get shot down in flames for this but I personally think that ALL the forces should get out of Iraq & just let the Iraqi's get on with it. At the rate they're killing people, there will be no Iraqi's left soon anyway.

I'm of the opinion we should get out of Iraq for the same reason that you should stop banging your head on a brick wall.

I agree, but I would make sure we secure what we went there for in the first place, the oil. Leave the rest of them to sort it out themselves instead of trying to impose our way of life and values on them.

And taking their oil isn't imposing our way of life and values on them?

Are you aware that "the oil" isn't something that can just be popped into a suitcase and taken out of Iraq by the retreating US soldiers ? Extracting and transporting Iraqi oil is going to be next to impossible while there's a genocidal civil war going on.

I remember it as WMDs we went there for, the oil never belonged to us in the first place.

Harry the nazi is perfect for the roll of invading fascist oppressor.

Prince Philips brother in law being on Henrik Himmlers personal staff, I'm sure he's happy to see a long standing tradition upheld.

Any sqaudie worried about catching a bullet aimed at Harry, tough, old saying goes, "you fly with the crows you get shot with the crows" seems apt, besides that's the job they wanted, death or glory and all that.
