Hello everybody, I notice that on the mainland there is a growing movement of people who intend to refuse to pay their energy bills untill something is done about energy companies profits. Has anybody here signed up to this or knows anything about it.

I don’t think not paying your bills will help the end user much, at the end of the day they will still need to pay what is dew.
However I do have my concerns about my upcoming winter bill.
I fear all this hype over profits is not necessarily a healthy thing. but the lack of info of what they plan to do with the profits also will not help. Governments are also not helping this ether by showing people and hyping up tax cuts as if this is a huge thing, then swaps it out by saying no that’s something we can’t do but here is 5p off, wooo look how generous we are!

to me relying on “the big profiters” and the governments for practical help is something I don’t think will ever happen, if help does come it was probably too late for many. perhaps for those who can an off-grid system may be the answer?  Like a small system to operate separate to the main grid supply of your property. Let it charge up some batteries (solar, wind, pedal, whatever) and use that gathered energy to charge laptops, phones, TVs or maybe at a push depending on the system heat the air or water? I know this may not be practical in lots of locations but this is a method I am looking into for myself.

The energy providers:

"We need to up the bills to provide energy to you."

"We have just made record breaking profits."

Zombie Tory Government:

"We can't do anything because we haven't chosen a new leader yet."

"No we couldn't possibly cut vat on your bills or tax the energy companies."

"What we might do to stop the riots is con you by using your own taxes and/or print more money to 'gift' you a few hundred pounds to help you pay your energy bill thus maintaining the massive profits and share dividends both us and our backers enjoy."

The whole thing is a massive con, what the companies do (legally) is create subsidiaries that show a loss thus protecting them from paying tax. At the same time the parent company rakes in the profits.

The doo doo is about to hit the fan this winter so what will probably happen is the government will (yet again) use public money to bail out private companies and package it as a 'gift' to us from the Chancellor so the gullible keep voting for them.

One thing's for certain, privatisation is very expensive for us and highly profitable for companies, the only thing that stops the whole house of cards from collapsing is a large number of (better off) voters in addition to most of those in government are shareholders in these businesses collecting annual dividends in the biggest sure thing you can possibly get...

'Privatised' companies that get bailed out with public money every time their profit margins don't satisfy the shareholders.
