KOYAANISQATSI
The uncle of a five-year-old girl who was killed by a pit bull terrier has been jailed for eight weeks for owning the illegal dog.Ellie Lawrenson was attacked while staying at her grandmother's home in St Helens, Merseyside, in the early hours of New Year's Day.District Judge Alan Jones told Simpson he did not accept the mitigating argument that he had been given official advice that he could keep the dog or that he had instructed his family to leave the animal outside."It is not enough to absolve you of responsibility that you left the dog with instructions that it should not be left inside the house." Simpson's mother, 46-year-old Jacqueline Simpson, has been charged with Ellie's manslaughter. A trial will take place later this year. Not the same situation, but not a million miles away, though the courts and media took the more direct approach of blaming the people responsible for placing the child carelessly in harms way. KOYAANISQATSI
And again:Mom jailed after baby found alone in fire------------------------------------------An 18-year-old woman faces a charge of child abandonment after her 10-month-old son was found alone in a burning apartment, Dallas police said.“There was nobody in the apartment with the baby.†Fire investigators questioned the mother to determine why the child had been alone in the ground-floor apartment. Initial reports that the mother left the child in someone else’s care while she left to get something to eat proved untrue, Senior Cpl. Matthews said. The child had been left alone for about 20 minutes. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/041607dnmetfire.143b388f.html I suppose the difference with these cases in the eyes of the public is that the dog owner had a drugs conviction and the 18 year old was a young single mum, so neither of these deserve any pity, not being middle class. That as may be, but letting them off scot free and having international football teams rally around them sends entirely the wrong message to people for parental responsibilitys.Despite "Wifeys" naive claim that no one is ever going to leave an infant alone again, I would like to see more done to help insure it and the country showering the McCanns with unending affection aint helping no one but the McCanns. JustMe
Wonder what people would say if it turned out the parents had done away with her."Go to jail and stay there for ever" might sound about right. Seriously I imagine the investigators are aware that something like that is an outside chance and will have quietly confirmed the parents story. As for the topic I guess if I was a parent I might leave my children alone for a short time as long as I thought it safe to do so. And I guess most parents either have, or would in the right circumstances, leave kids alone for a while.
KOYAANISQATSI
JustMe:I guess if I was a parent I might leave my children alone for a short time as long as I thought it safe to do so. Just as well your not then. Best to not to put yourself down as a babysitter either.just how long do you suppose it takes a 3 year old to come a cropper, to empty a cupboard and find a packet of drawing pins to wear as teeth, or get the bleach out for a quick drink, perhaps investigate that power socket with anything they can find to stick in it, or to just wake up to find themselves abandoned and spend a half hour screaming in terror while your busy in the chip shop que. what if you got run down and killed on the way across the street and no one knew you had walked out stupidly leaving a child of 3 behind, there are far to many factors where kids are concerned, but if that's something you cant envision then my advice to you is please dont breed. Never leave a baby or toddler alone, even for a few minutes. There are many dangers in a house for an unsupervised child. Leaving a child who is asleep is not a good idea, either - he may wake up and try to come looking for you. Also, being alone in the dark can be terrifying for a small child.http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/leaving_children.html

If you care to explain your nonsensical jabberings it may help me know what you mean by your half a line. If not wanting your kids feeding on drawing pins and bleach, getting abducted, etc, is bad parenting, then how does things work in your house. Just throw food at them and they'll mostly bring up themselves; your not Homer Simpson by any chance are you. And yes I am a parent.

Sudden Stop
just how long do you suppose it takes a 3 year old to come a cropper....perhaps investigate that power socket with anything they can find to stick in it... I didn't take me long as a bairn, I would say about 2 minutes is long enough for devestation to ensue. I was sure that sticking the car keys in the little holes in the wall would make my imaginary car start up. And I hadn't even been left alone! Mum was about ten feet away on the other side of a door. The bang, the screaming and the power going off, did make her wonder what I was up to though...
JustMe
Gives me an idea for dragons den, a cage u can put them in which is stuck to the floor.Yes! an excellent idea and only one up from a play pen so people might even accept the idea. And despite the very real dangers small children are frequently left alone as is proved by the many cases of toddlers drowning in garden ponds.
