Dagfinn Posted July 15, 2007 Report Share Posted July 15, 2007 Having grown up in the socalled "Nordic Bible Belt", the Faroe Islands, I couldn´t but notice, the total absence of the topic "Religion" here on Shetlink Forum. This is in fact, the only forum I´ve visited, that did not include such a fundamental topic as Religion. Maybe the lacking need for this topic reflects the members in here being young, and religion not really playing an important role in their lives? Or is this subject maybe too sensitive; so you just left it out? Anyway: If I was to ask a question about religion in here, where would I post it? Under politics? or maybe culture? Of course, on the faroese equivalent to Shetlink Forum, "Kjak.fo" http://www.kjak.fo/forum/viewforum.php?f=16 the topic Religion (Ãtrúnaður) is a big subject of discussion. Guess what I ment was; I´ve never visited a forum where Religion is not a Headline subject. Because, if I was to ask a question I would need to put it as a new subject, under the headline "Religion"; not as answer no. 517 in the single subject religion. That´s what I ment. Never mind. There was talk a while back of a 'Debates' section to include such topics as Religion and such, but the general feeling at the time was that the current layout seems to be working quite well in this regard. I have raised the issue again as the other mods may wish to comment on this themselves. Despite not having a specific forum for 'Religion', the topic appears in many threads in many guises. Don't be fooled into thinking that it's a minor topic on these boards; just the layout hasn't really required there to be a dedicated forum. Welcome aboard, btw. To set out to poison minds for profit should definitely be stamped on once and for all.Oh yeah and the Jewish practice of child mutilation is now outdated, "STOP IT", I fail to see the reason in that madness, if I were to chop of my kids ears in honour of the sky pixies, I'm sure the law would step in. Circumcision is common amongst non-Jews for hygenic and health reasons all over the world. Even Bixter! Its also a Jewish cultural thing as well as a religious thing so its not always in honour of the sky pixies. Although it is obviously without consent as it happens 8 days after birth. Female circumcision is done to inhibit sexual activity and not for reasons of hygene or health, but this has nothing to do with Jewish tradition/religion. If the effectiveness against HIV infection is as they say in ArabiaTerra's link it might be the case that in future you might have the law step in if you don't agree to your kid's circumcision. Even BixterFor health reasons or personal choice cause you like it that way is one thingy but as for the hygiene excuse, it's not as if they're living in some ancient desert with nothing but cacti to scrub it with. Surely by now there is some sort of washing facilitys.Its also a Jewish cultural thing as well as a religious thingwhether cultural or religious, whether it makes the sky pixie happy or he couldn't give a flying monkeys flip, it's still a piss poor excuse for torturing babies.
