Independant members x 4

Thing is though most if not all of the people that normally attend the AGM already hold a post within the club they are representing so it is not ideal to have them on the committe as there may always be a conflict of interest, and as for finding 4 independant members you've no chance.

How about airtrafficben for an indepedent member?

He's a person with football experience from a much higher level, and has no ties to any club in Shetland.

What is the role of an independent member?

If it involves a lot of work, then may as well ask him to be president of the association instead.

Surely it is more important that the president is truly independent?

It would be very interesting to have a president who could just make decisions based on what is best for Shetland football, and not just try to keep people happy, or do something because 'that's how we've always done it'.

Saying that, I do think the current persident has done a bloody good job, faced with some difficult situations.

Sorry Penfold could u tell me exactly who sits on the FA as i'm a bit confused. Do you have the 11 positions above + 11 club representitives? Or do club reps try to fill the positions advertised apart from the independent members? And who decides when someone is 'independent'? Surely just about everyone interested in Shetland fitba has some connection to one o da clubs in da league!

Those 11 positions as far as I believe carry a vote at any meeting to decide SFA policy etc, the clubs also have 1 vote each, I have seen some clubs with a few representatives at the AGM's but they are only allowed 1 vote per club.

That gives a total of 22 votes I think, your right about independant members though it nearly is always someone with a prior or ongoing connection to a club in Shetland.

I hear that Magnus Flaws took John Johnson to task at last nights Association meeting when John announced that he cannot and will not select a final county squad before May. This turned out to be a blazing row and I've heard that John may resign as he feels he's being undermined. John has also complained about the lack of help he gets from the Association and was livid that last years county meadals were not available to be presented at the awards night in October. Ironically, John chose not to go to the do in protest. He added the training preparation from May to July is longer than International sides get.
