Fjool
I agree. It is the one Shetland word which, as a soothmoother, I use without any worries whatsoever; I have no alternative. It's as much part of my language as anyone (However, if I had moderation abilities in this forum, I would merge this thread with: Shaetlan Wird o' Da Day)
JAStewart
but I don't want this to be a day-long discussion. Spaegie should be discussed at length.
jag1984
funny this should come up coz I mentioned I had spaegie afore a training session in Aberdeen last week and I think the phrase my Uni buddies agreed upon wis Lactic Acid, but not entirely sure if its the same! Ghostrider
It's not a term that covers the whole of Shetland though, 'creaks' is what it's called round here.
DePooperit
I would say 'spaegie', but I would also say 'creeksit' as an adjective. I'm not sure which of these, or possibly both, hails from my 'bonhoaga' - I picked up words from other parts when I was in the hostel. I would tend to use 'spaegie' of the after-work ache, and 'creeks' of more general aches and pains, though - anyone else have this distinction, or is it just me? Another interesting one is 'baenwark' or 'bonwark', which means the pains associated with having flu or such.
