bug
Someone mentioned blockades earlier in this thread. Would not a blockade of Europe's largest oil terminal not be the way to make the powers that be sit up and take notice ? Not a viable option - was tried/threatened by the local fishing fleet sailing up to Yell Sound many moons ago when tanker traffic was at it's busiest. (blockade didn't actually occur but the threat did get a snippet of National publicity though it had zero effect). Nowadays with minimal tanker movements and huge storage capacity it would take weeks to make the slightest impact if any impact whatsoever. There's nobody I can think of that would even consider such a foolhardy undertaking.
Malcolm
The increase represents 3p per litre extra vat and 1p per litre pure profiteering by the petrol stations!
Skunnered
Shetland will be national headlines very shortly when we are the first to hit the £1.50 /litre mark.Very shortly!
enkelt skapninger
If the windfarm is going ahead, maybe SIC could rule that VE have to provide free car charging points across the islands (or subsidise car charging at home). Then, we could buy electric cars. While they're pretty dear, with free electricity instead of eye-wateringly expensive fuel they'd end up being pretty good value for money. Their comparitively low range on one charge wouldn't matter much here!
PJ of Hildisvik
When an electric car costs under ten grand, and is capable of travelling 500 miles non stop, i might consider one Not £23.000 and a range of only 140 miles. Yet again it has to be shouted out, NOT EVERYONE LIVES AND WORKS IN BLOODY LERWICK
enkelt skapninger
I don't live in Lerwick either, but a 140 mile range will get you from Sumburgh to Baltasound and back, wouldn't it? Do most people really drive more than 140 miles a day?

paulb
my maths is poor but they seem to be charging us extra vat on the vat we are paying. the fuel was 136.9 before the increase its now 140.9 . that is an increase of just under 3.5p per litre so they have added an extra .5p per litre. but we are paying more vat than the south on fuel so how can that be fair tax.so either the oil company have messed up or they are stealing beggers. Hows about blockading the Town Hall?Keep those elected idiots from performing in their usual manner and everybody in Shetland will be able to afford the extra fuel cost easily. stilldellin
Maybe we should hold off for the next meeting, make sure " The Flea " is in there with them, lock the door for a week and then see what spews out at the end !

Skunnered
I don't understand what SVT has got to do with the hight fuel prices in Shetland. There's only one company responsible for the high prices, and as far as I can see there's no pressure being put on them to do anything about it.
