Gorgonzola Butt-cheese
From the bbc story But a Treasury source said "informal discussions" were still taking place between EU and British officials. The UK needs EU permission to charge different fuel duty rates around the country. Ministers hope to make a formal request after the Budget. EU law means the UK would need the European Commission to propose the scheme, and the EU's finance ministers to unanimously support the idea at an ECOFIN meeting. Once the request is made by the UK, it will take three months for the commission to draw up a proposal and several further months for it to be agreed. Only then would a pilot scheme be possible. This is the bottom line the U.K. Government cannot set different levels of fuel duty, they have given away the control to do so. By the time they get this through and it's a big if ! It will most certainly have gone up by another 15 pence a litre. If you voted for any of the mainstream parties who let the E.U. reign supreme than you only have yourselves to blame. mhutch
On Facebook a cause has been set up re keeping fuel below £1 a litre. Demonstrations are being organised outside many of the oil refineries and I think a petition is being handed in (or the results of how many people join the cause page) to No. 10. Perhaps a similar cause page could be set up for up here? given that its supposed to be budgeting and cuts now for all , i rather doot our new ruler will stroke a few pence off his fire lighter budget, tho the idea is good for low level rumblings
Urabug
Fuel prices should now be universal, therfore the price would be the same all over the UK. This would then mean that everyone would pay the same & there would be no unfair descrimination depending on where you live

The companies who supply filling stations do so to make a profit and would not deliver fuel at a loss. Equally filling station operators want a profit and they would (with perhaps a few exceptions) not sell fuel if there was no profit to be had. Graeme_Storey
I certainly don't mind paying extra for my fuel to be delivered to Shetland, but NOT 15p to 20p per litre extra!
Guest posiedon
^^Do you think it costs 25/30p a litre to get the fuel up to Shetland?
Graeme_Storey
http://www.petrolprices.com/ Interesting for keeping an eye on prices all over the UK.
JohanofNess
^^Do you think it costs 25/30p a litre to get the fuel up to Shetland? No I think that a fuel company has realised it's got a monopoly and is taking advantage of it. I would expect to see an extra few pence per litre for it being delivered to Shetland not 20p. lerwick
You could try contacting the local carriers to price getting diesel up in barrels. The pallet price used to be abt 100 quid . I dont know how many barrels could fit on a pallet.
engineer21
4 barrels on a pallet (single stacked) so thats 208ltrs x 4 = 832lts divdie that by £100 ( unless double stacked still come to £100 shipping?) the fuel price for the whole of the uk is stupid!! UK govt is to blame they will run this country down so far it will cost the earth to get us out!
lerwick
A saving of 100 pound on four barrels if only single stacked on Lerwick pump prices wow! someone is taking the mickey, its not just the carriage that makes our fuel so much more expensive than Aberdeen.
