engineer21
really ive no idea if discoveries are ahead of production, (i work in it im not spending my free time reading about it ) plus you should take whatever you read with a pinch of salt! if i was to belive the shetland times in the 80s then SVT would be mothballed by now no?? iam only saying what i know working for one of the biggest geophysical companys in world both land and marine, and the places we are working. my original argument was that the price difference between shetland and mainland isnt the real problem its the overall world price of something which isnt the true cost of extraction/refining its being manipulated this should be made illegal otherwise where will it end? mclaffalot
Yes I agree the oil companys do make a good profit , but why not really as they've invested countless billions in it in exploration and development etc , BUT what of our greedy government who tax it to the hilt ? They are the ones who are pushing the prices to this unsustainable level , the level of duty is ridiculous and the to add insult to injury they slap vat on it aswell , a tax on tax !!! The most ridiculous thing is that this government can slap a tax on whatever they want , put up vat etc without having to ask the E.U , But when it invloves giving a fuel rebate to the highlands and Islands they have to go crawling to an unelected quango for permission to do so. Cost = £30.26 !!!!!!!!!!!!! Here it would have cost dead on 30 pounds @ 136.9/l In November 2008 it would have cost dead on 20 pounds @ 94.9/l These prices are from the same DEALER. Are you sure in 2 years the tax has gone up that much? is there any PROOF?

saltire
I fuelled up last week in Greenock and it was 1.39p per ltr for deisel and 1.44p in Dunoon, today notice Dunoon is 1.41p, so its down 3p a ltr over here.
daveh
Having had to pay 153.9 for my diesel this week that is so depressing.I guess the locals in Greenock are complaining at the cost of fuel as well !
saltire
Probably doesnt help you guys unless your going on holiday but Tesco is doing the 5p a ltr discount of fuel again which makes the diff between Shetland and mainland even greater, albeit only if you fill up at Tesco. daveh
They give those 5p off vouchers at Tescos here but it seems to only make it feel worse. Goodness knows why they can't stop them being printed here.
