Fifi
I'm a woman and I absolutely detest shopping, I don't think I am normal! I tend to think about what I need, run in and get it and if they don't have it I go without!Me too ... it must be our "male" genes ...I was trying to wind up our male counterparts with my last statement .. I must admit to a little of the latter too, playing up to stereotypes. Shopping's ok now and then, in small doses but I couldn't stand it being south and feeling that you've got to be in the shops all the time. Last brief visit to Abdn recently, I haunted the art gallery. Ok, so I did a bit of shopping too..
Colin
It's been YEARS since I last went into a shop with my wife.. Life just isn't long enough to waste that kind of time. I go into a shop thinking 'what do I want' and, if they haven't got it, feel quite happy about walking out again.XYL goes in thinking 'what can I buy' and, if they haven't got it, buys something else whether she needs it or not. Then, if she gets really desperate, she buys something for somebody else..?It's a different mindset!! I am convinced that it's another one of those 'women's genetic things'. Probably the same masochistic little piece of DNA that drives them to body piercing and bikini line waxing. NewMagnie
It gets worse. Wander into the women's knicker department of aberdeen M&S around two hours before the departure of either boat or plane and spot the confused and slightly panicky Shetland men, travelling alone, sooth, with instructions to return with highly specific items of female intimate apparel.(size, colour, hi/low hipped, reinforced gusseted, g-backed/fronted/sided, comfort fit, underwired, cross your heart, 5-to-a-pack, or else) They'll be in a cold sweat, brandishing a piece of paper with the hastily noted details of the aforementioned items (probably no longer stocked in that precise combination, but god help them if they return knickerless) as if it's the one thing that marks them out as an honest shopper as opposed to a low end pervert. The resultant hasty purchase and hastier departure to a taxi rank and a journey home beset by uncertainty and hopes not to have their bags checked at the airport are the final sign. Spinner72
^^^^ I keen dat feeling only too weel. Whin i'm awa fur a short trip mesell i generally only tak a peerie backpack wi da essentials. Which enevitably ends up over-packed wi more "essentials" afore i get home. I have spent a long time tryin tae figure oot da "browsing" aspect. But i just canna. Ach, i wis aboot tae rant, but dir nae point, clearly aabody keens da score. Shops should hae computer terminals wi search engines just inside da door, an aa da shelves numbered. Dat waye you mak up your list, print him aff, dan heed roond gadderin it aa up. Lowrie
The branch of William Hills on Union Street makes an excellent man creche! They'll even give out free tea and coffee to keep you gambling!
JohanofNess
I've just come back from shopping with the girlfriend (she's visiting me in Aberdeen) and I thought of something which I'm sure all men here will agree with. Wouldn't it be nice to have, in the big shopping centers, a room with a big TV on it showing Sky Sports news that you could go sit and wait and watch TV or something. I stood ootside Primark for 45 minutes yesterday! And don't say "Pub!" because I was on my own. If you disagree... couldn't the wimmin shops at least have benches for us males? You need to go to John Lewis, thats what I do, let her look at all the stuff she wants while I make one of the techno jobsworths show me how good the surround sound is with the uber plasma tele while demanding to see soccer saturday. Worked 9 times out of 10.
penfold
My Grandad had a good plan for shopping with my gran, if they needed some item for the house etc, he'd say to her to go round the town and find the item required and the next weekend they would go to the 3 shops that offered the best deal and get the item from the one they got the best deal at, he said to her, that way she got the benefit from trawling round the shops for the best deal and he didn't get pissed off having to go round all the shops, kept down on the arguments
squintpinkies
if they are to put benches in "female" shops they should have them in the "male" shops too! my goodness, had to stand around for at least an hour whilst the boyfriend discussed guitars at the counter, remembering to make the appropriate ooooh's and aaaaah's when it was needed.
