I have the set top box thingy which gives you about 10 channels mostly unwatchable things like red button, gay rabbit and CBBC so I am going a bit nuts. What's the recommended solution? I was thinking about getting SKY to cover my TV, Phone and broadband but am a bit worried that it wont work, from what my neighbors are saying. I live in Papil which is a bit remote and doesnt get mobile reception really. Please save me.

just get a sky dish set up and grab yourself a sky box but don't put a card in to receive all the free channels. a mate of mine does this as he moved into a house with an existing dish in place so thought he would use it for something. he receives most of the free view channels so is a fairly cheap way of doing it aswell. (remember to bookmark all free channels though as it can be bad going through hundreds of channels to find one thats free

Does anyone have any idea why it's lying to me?

I'm in the brig o waas there's no way that's real.

Speedtest can give some weird results. I have always been of the opinion that the results are a tad optimistic.... but even taking that in to account, your results are well… impossible! :-)

The server they use in Aberdeen is very erratic.

I wonder if speedtest tries to work out latency/speed by doing a distance based calculation from the server to where it thinks the user is based? Seeing as there is no PoP in Shetland the results could be way off the mark.

I prefer to use this speed test service - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html

Your right about this being a good way to get all the free channels. You get many more than you can get on freeview, particularly if you live outside Lerwick. When I used a sky box without a card, it reverts to BBC1 "London", which is annoying if your programme is only on BBC1 Scotland. However if you purchase a "one of card" from sky for £20, you then get your region channels, plus you will get the "five" channels and Sky 3, with no further cost.

I do a speed test every morning to check our internet connection. For the last year we have consistently had a download connection of about 7000 kbps which gives us an IP profile of 6000 kbps and a download speed of about 5500 kbps. About two weeks ago our ADSL connection rate dropped to about 4400 kbps and seems to have been stuck there since. Having done all sorts of tests I am pretty sure that it is a BT thing and not us. I just had a call from a BT guy and he was trying to tell me that it was due to congestion on the line.

Has anybody else noticed a big drop in their connection speed in the last couple of weeks? (We are in Whiteness and are connected to the exchange at Veensgarth).

I also use the Veensgarth exchange and my speed looks ok, Its a while since I last tested it, but it looks around the norm I get.

Yeah, i live in Lerwick and seemed to have been having problems the last couple of weeks.

The problems seem to be at night usually between the hours of 8pm and midnight, sometimes i cannot get onto the internet at all or when i do it is running very slow.

I also seem to have bother when trying to play Modern Warfare2 on the playstation:) the game loads up but when i try online gaming then it either won't connect me or takes a bloody age to get going, i usually just give up.

I'm also with BT, i have been told before that it may be down to an increased amount of people on the internet, on the other hand i've been told this shouldn't make a difference.
