It probably won't ever be fixed until you sign up for a new broadband supplier who actually care about their customers.

Tiscali only seem interested in robbing your bank account every month, even when they have failed to provide what they were hired to suppy in the first place.

Plusnet here I come.

Does anybody know what the Faroese cable will give us?.

15 in Norway is just mind-blowing

(see 12 posts above).

Sorry to be a killjoy but the short answer is that it will make sausage all differance....

Oh dear, is that right?. Well, if it isn't going to help broadband speeds then I wonder what the point is in investing in it :(

My connection has only been playing up since Thursday and it has been getting generally worse since than. Do you recomend just changing company?

No it's not right.... (well only partly right at best). The SIC investment is about backhaul and core network, not access networks (at this time). The thing is, no improvement can be made to access networks without the investment in core networks.... the SIC is basically 'fixing' the biggest problem and opening up oppertunities for improving the access networks. It would be impossible to acheive this without the fibre optic network the SIC is investing in.

Further to that - the BDUK project could see up to 4 areas in Shetland getting improved broadband. Details of the project is being worked on now. This will only be possible with more off-island bandwidth, that wouldn't have been possible without the SIC network and the connection to the Faroese cable (the microwave links are at full capacity)

SIC currently has pilot projects running in Fetlar and Vidlin (not using BT access networks) providing broadband to residents and businesses in the area.

I guess it should mean that problems in Sanday won't affect us any more.

But there again would we be better waiting for the submarine cable to be repaired or the Sanday to Scousborough microwave link ??

A break in any of the submarine cables would not make any difference to service unlike the microwave link. Access to the Faroese cable with give Shetland resilient services on 3 different fibre optic cable connections to London.
