Update

This morning Ian Shanks from BT e-mailed. Ian is the Head of Scottish Affairs at BT Scotland. A thouroughly good bloke who does his level best to sort out what he can.

I gave him a list of the exchanges that were still having problems.

At the moment it seems like the problems have cleared except Walls, Baltasound and Gott. I have e-mailed him again to say that these exchanges are still having problems.

So..... how are you all getting on now?.. Please include which exchange you are on.

^^I'll let you know in an hour or so. Mine (Sumburgh) was okay (or as okayish as it ever is, which ain't much, usually 1.2 - 1.5 Mb/s) until around this time yesterday, but when the evening load came on it died away to nothing. It always does slow some, usually around poor but still usable (0.7 - 09 ish), but yesterday it was just killed right off. I never had the patience to wait long enough for a speed test result to get an exact speed.... It only bounced back to "normal" sometime between midnight and 1am.

Right now I'm pulling around 1.5, so we'll see how long in to the evening it lasts.

^^ I feel a tad guilty as mine has been rather steady with a download of around 6.60mb but dropped to a shocking 6.19mb just now (I blame Ghostrider for turning his router on  ). I'm Sumburgh Exchange too but on BT Business.

PS: I'll let you know Ghostrider when I've stopped work for the day and then hopefully your speed will increase.

Oh dear! I was getting 6 mb at lunchtime, but back to this it seems! I'm on the Lerwick exchange.

I did get a reply from my ISP and despite telling them everyone I knew in Shetland was suffering the same problem and it seemed to be a BT network problem, they have....................... sent me a new netgear wireless router and instructions on how to test my equipment when it arrives!!

I'll wait till the router comes then hopefully it will have been sorted and I'll have a shiny new router to do with what I will! :)

But, BT says it's fixed. So can we really complain?

http://www.shetland-news.co.uk/2010/November/news/BT%20say%20broadband%20problems%20fixed.htm

BT and the other service providers are still getting their monthly direct debit payments for the service they say they are providing, and as long as they are getting those payments why should they really be bothered whether or not they are actually providing a service.

What would happen if people started to demand refunds for the time that the service has been unavailable????

Just an idea which might be worth pursuing.
