hairyian
Yup, I just knew I spoke far too soon..... [Began dropping back around 6pm....as usual. That will be the usual time Tiscali runs out of steam then ?
Ghostrider
^^ Yup, they didn't last night though, so I thought *maybe* BT's tinkering had had some effect. No such luck apparently, looks like it was just a fluke. Right now its worse than it was in that test, I can no longer get the tester to load. It'll start perking up again in an hour or so usually, but won't get fully back up to anything reasonably workable until after midnight. I guess that's when the nighshift clock on and start firing the boilers properly again. I've hung with Tiscali far, far too long.... Definitely need to move on elsewhere. Para Handy
BT to join Faroese fibre next year http://www.shetland-news.co.uk/2010/November/news/BT%20to%20join%20Faroese%20fibre%20next%20year.htm
stilldellin
Quote from letters page Shetland News :- Thirdly, and most importantly, the biggest thanks must go to the BT engineers who have had to go out in truly terrible weather to make the repairs - your work is very much appreciated. How embarrassing, " da boys " must hiv been cringing when dey read yon !
Marvin
BT to join Faroese fibre next year http://www.shetland-news.co.uk/2010/November/news/BT%20to%20join%20Faroese%20fibre%20next%20year.htm BT have had leased fibre in the Faroese cable for over 3 years. It's just they have chosen not to use it. See this article from November 2007 - http://www.computescotland.com/bt-leases-share-in-720km-fibre-optic-cable-492.php And as Ian says in the Shetland News article, most of the problems of the last two weekes were in Edinburgh.... And the quote from me is not quite right. You won't be able to buy faster broadband services... there is no plan for FTTP/FTTC. What it will improve is the reliability but not the network in itself. There will still be distance based tariffs which is a huge disadvantage for Shetland. It means any telecoms dependant business simply cannot afford to operate in Shetland. A 100Mbps ethernet/internet connection in Lerwick - £236,000A 100Mbps ethernet/internet connection in Aberdeen - £14,500 A 2Mbps leased line for the outer isles £400,000 per year... anybody? As I have no faith left in BT Except screwing money out of us all. And cutting a disabled pensioners phone off because she still had £20.00 to pay. “BT to join Faroese fibre next yearâ€.I will believe it when I see it.Now if it was all because everyone had refused to pay them any money until the got it sorted out?“Hit them where it hurts in there walletsâ€. (You just have to see how many of our so called councillors? Have fingers in the Pie when it comes to the Windmill thing. It is easy to see why they don’t want to have a vote over it)No if some other phone provider was to offer the Shetland Islands a better service?I wonder what BT would suddenly pull out of there hat then
Widworx
little bit of advice again if you are a bt customer call their help line tell them your broadband is crap and plug in the ethernet cable so they can then give you the number to put in the address bar for them to have remote access to your computer then leave them to dick around trying to sort out your broken router after a hour or so they give up yet still dont admit that it is a line fault, then send you a brand new free wirless router. plug it in then repeat the process. Ive got 3 anyone want one.if we all do this and keep on doing this it will mount up costs for bt and we get loads of free wireless routers to put on ebay when the broadband is sorted out. I think they must have read your post BTH. After jumping through thier hoops they told me it was my router at fault (it wasn't) and sent me a new one, but they also enclosed a bag and asked that I ruturn the old one.
