stilldellin
Looks like we are not at the bottom of the list :- Patience is a much-needed virtue for web-savvy residents of Railway Hill in Canterbury, Kent. Their average download speed is 0.13Mb, which means downloading a film would take about 48 hours.

hairyian
^^ Cheers for feedback, looks like just me then, still the same, IP profile knocked back to 750k instead of 2000k so will have to investigate.... That will be because your modem has connected to the exchange at a speed between 750 and 1000k. The line profile automatically and very rapidly decreases. If your line speed has come back, the profile will automatically, but rather slowly, increase again in the next day or two, so long as you don't have another lower speed connect again. Low speed connects usually caused by a relatively prolonged period (seconds) of electrical noise on the line. Scenario ... All singing and dancing happily. A great noise appears. Modem can't hold the connection at this speed with the racket - disconnects.Retrains - still with racket on the line and settles on a speed it can manage.IP profile is racheted down.Noise goes away. Modem never retrains upwards. You restart modem and now get a higher line speed.Exchange end waits to see if this is stable for a while before increasing the profile again. If this is happening a lot - you need to see if the problem is inside your property and fix it. Easier said than done. If it is external influences, you may not be able to do a lot about it. stilldellin
^ Yes hairyian my connection speed is a consistant 2560k with or without all internal wiring disconnected. I have spoken to these " far away people " and stressed that it is them not me that controls my IP Profile so they say they will have a look and get back to me. Thanks for your input, I live in hope... Update, BT are to reset sig/noise ratio to day one which should set IP Profile back to 2Meg. Now here is the crunch bit. " Will take up to the 18th to come up to speed "! $%£&***
