I have emailed the Sudanese Embassy about this matter, maybe others could do the same!!! This sort of treatment should not be tolerated. It is sad that the country is run by fanatics and fundamentalists and I have told them that.

It was a genuine mistake - I mean no one would go out of their way to insult Islam - not these days!!! Heaven forbid!

And if I had been in a similar position in a British Classroom asking for teddy bears names I would tend to go along with the children's wishes which is what Mrs Gibbons was endeavouring to do.

Personally, I think the person that reported her in the first place should be the one up in court.

The darker side to this issue is the fact that we allow the Sudanese government to have an embassy in the UK when they appear to think that meeting out lashes, chopping off hands and other such primitive punishments are acceptable.

I've also sent an email to the principal of the school. Here is his email address:

I'm sure he would like to here your views. He has certainly got mine!!!

Maybe we could put in a word about the small matter of the genocide too:

From...http://www.savedarfur.org/

The current crisis in Darfur began in 2003. After decades of neglect, drought, oppression and small-scale conflicts in Darfur, two rebel groups – the Sudanese Liberation Army/Movement (SLA/M) and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) – mounted an insurgency against the central government. These groups represent agrarian farmers who are mostly “non-Arab black African†Muslims from a number of different tribes. President al-Bashir’s response was brutal. In seeking to defeat the rebel movements, the Government of Sudan increased arms and support to local tribal and other militias, which have come to be known as the Janjaweed.2 Their members are composed mostly of “Arab black African†Muslims3 who herd cattle, camels, and other livestock. They have wiped out entire villages, destroyed food and water supplies, and systematically murdered, tortured, and raped hundreds of thousands of Darfuris. In previous internal conflicts (in the south, center, and east of the country), the Sudanese government also employed the tactic of using proxy militias to attack the civilian populations that have been thought to support insurgencies. These attacks often occur with the direct support of the Government of Sudan’s armed forces or at the very least, with their tacit approval.

- I mean no one would go out of their way to insult Islam - not these days!!! Heaven forbid!......

Oh, I don't know about that......

I'll insult any bloody religion which which can be so stupid, narrow minded, fanatical, etc.. etc.., as Islam.

But all religions are a load of bo**ocks. Without religion people could live in peace and harmony.

Without the racist segregations caused by religion there could be an end to war. And with an end to war, the money wasted on weapons could be put to more peaceful uses....

But I'm just dreaming.. Humanity is too damned stupid to behave itself, as long as it is reading from a book written so long ago that nobody can prove it was written by a nutter in the first place.. Who knows, in a few thousand years there may be fanatics who base their religion on the 'Shetland Independent' bible...

And just for added insult to the religious system,,, I've renamed my pet spiders,,, Mohamed, and Jesus. So I can wait for my forty lashes then???

And before anybody jumps on me for being anti Islam, or racist, I have friends who are Muslim, and they are just as pissed off as me....

Damn!!! where did that bolt of lightning just come from,,,

Why is it ok for these people to burn British and American flags, dummys of George Bush, Tony Blair etc and organise demos of hate throughout the world yet when somebody happens to mention the Prophet of bleedin Mohammed in the wrong context they go crazy (Hope nobody in the Muslim world sees that or i`ll be hung drawn and quartered!). These people are the most sensitive people in the world who think the whole world is against them.

What would happen if a Muslim teaching in this country allowed his or hers pupils to call a Teddybear Jesus or God, would the whole Christian World revolt and demand appologies, jail sentences, flogging! I think not, imagine the uproar if that were to happen from the Muslim World

A well-travelled pal of mine's take on Islam is that whenever you talk with a Muslim you're talking with the Q'uran. You know what he means when you hear this sort of sh*t.

I've just re-named my piggy bank.

I've just re-named "the Great White God", know what I mean?

More fool her for trying to help the rank and file in a country that's governed by crackpots, and even bigger idiots our government for pouring cash in. Completely ignoring nations like this may seem harsh and cruel on the general population, but it's being cruel to be kind, pouring in "aid" in whatever form first and foremost always just props up the strength of the crackpot leadership and prolongs the agony of the rank and file.

There is no "clean and pretty" way out dealing with nations like this, there is either the quicker violent and bloody change to something else, or the slow one, having been drawn out by the hierachy propping themselves up with the lion's share of foreign aid that was destined for the general population.

As a muslim living in Shetland for over 37 years, I thought it might be worth putting in my view on this. I can't say I practice my religion to the extent I should but ...

I absolutely and utterly condemn the decision taken by Sudan and its court. Its a ridiculous state of affairs that will only serve to incite further hatred towards Islam.

Being honest I bought a muslim bear named Adam for my daughter. This bear was and is being sold on an Islamic site. Now Adam, Jesus, Abraham, Noah and John (along with many others in the bible and torah) are all prophets in Islam along with Muhammed who is more revered than the rest only because he is the final prophet who founded Islam and brought into being the Quran.

What should happen to the creators of Adam the bear ? And those who purchased it ? It beggars beyond belief the extreme to which some people take things.

You may have noticed that no other muslim country jumped to support Sudan and that the Muslim Council of Britain believes that this is ludicrous and with the Sudanese lacking in the most basic of common sense.

Anyway thats my two pennies worth and I really hope they have the sense to let Mrs Gibbons go. I certainly wouldn't want to carry on staying there if that is the extremes to which they take things.

BOWING DOWN TO MADNESS:

NOVELTY pig calendars and toys have been banned from a council office ? in case they offend Muslim staff.

Workers in the benefits department at Dudley Council, West Midlands, were told to remove or cover up all pig-related items, including toys, porcelain figures, calendars and even a tissue box featuring Winnie the Pooh and Piglet.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article102182.ece

British banks are banning piggy banks because they may offend some Muslims.

Halifax and NatWest banks have led the move to scrap the time-honoured symbol of saving from being given to children or used in their advertising.

http://www.theage.com.au/news/World/Piggy-banks-offend-UK-Muslims/2005/10/24/1130006056771.html

Clearly thousands of dead Africans matter less in the greater scheme of things (don't they always) than cuddly toys and comical representation of our porcine cousins (I mean porcine in the evolutionary sense - another modern concept that muslims have trouble grasping - not that they are alone in this among religious types).

I agree with you entirely.

At the moment, she has been sentenced to 15 days in prison and is to be deported, although she has been permitted to appeal this.

Oh, this is a rational response: Shoot UK teacher, say protesters

Shoot someone? For naming a bear? Seriously?

Muhammad will be peering down from Paradise, holding his head in his hands and saying "Don't shoot people in my name, you idiots!"

Have these people really no bigger problems to solve than to turn out in protest at this? Well done, Sudan, the world thinks you're an even bigger jerk now.
