SIC online payments

Has anyone here used the Shetland Council Online Payments?

 

I tried using it tonight and at the end of the transaction it asked for a mastercard securecode, I was not even using a mastercard.

 

Is this normal for SIC payments or is it phishing cos I have never had this before and I have used my card online loads of times?

I have used it before, only using a debit card though, and not had that.

 

BUT - they now state that they used Verified by Visa and Mastercard Securecode. (I don't think they did when I last used it), so it's nothing to worry about. There should be a way to bypass that though.

Paid it Post Office instead, never seen or heard of that securipay thing so I don't trust it. By the way I was also using a debit card.

MasterCard SecureCode appears to be a new additional security for paying online, used by the Royal Bank, Natwest and HSBC. You can get details at http://www.maestrocard.com/uk/security/securecode.html

Some debit cards are now effectively read by the system as the credit card they have affiliations to, for example a BOS Switch debit card is read as being a Visa Card by the system, no doubt Mastercard have similar affiliations to other debit cards.

I have used this securecode once or twice but not with the SIC. It is an online version of chip & pin or so the website said when I was making payment.
