The problem is that they really have very little power, and are run by a load of quangos in the Council. They need to have stronger confidence installed into what they can do, and be issued with armoured vehicles, vans, guns and helmets so that they can rid our streets of social vermin. I've yet to see one, or is that the point, they blend in with everyone else so that they get to see things as they "really" are? To be honest the whole concept sounds like a waste of time and money to me, far better to use the funds to put a few more visible police out there with a remit get to know the people in the neighbourhoods they serve a lot better, so that they can identify possible sources of potential problems and nip any which start to escalate in the bud. Road blocks were set up everywhere, people were boarding up windows. The police and the army were eventually called out. Someone said "it looks like a bomb has hit this place"...George Bush overheard and bombed the turd out of North Korea. Sad state of affairs really. I think what we need is Robocop down the cross. He'd sort out a few miscreants. His prime directives: Serve the public trust - Could possibly help out at events like the Gala, Up Helly Aa.
