Jay_Corolla
Wahay! It's about time their "fairytale" came to an end. Those useless bunch of villiage folk and their ideas of the big time For the last 3 years we've listened to Mileson and his crap of a fund to support Gretna when he did move on - where is this fund now How could anyone expect a club which could only attract 500-odd punters to an SPL match to be sustainable? Get it right up the media too who have drooled over Gretna for these last few years! Will be interesting to see if the BBC have made another documentary like they have the past two seasons And also all those gloryhunting feckers who went to that Scottish Cup final in 2006. AND Graeme Muir, who claimed Gretna were everybody's second club? God-loving freak. What would Aberdeen fans think if their game were to be postponed because Gretna cant afford the travel? I would be raging. All so they could "buy more time" for a potential investor? Aye right. What happens when it comes to next Thursday and they cant afford another bus? Just wipe them from the records now. They were a joke from day one.
JAStewart
Gretna for me represent a real life attempt at Football Manager Seriously though, I'm devastated that Gretna might close down, I think its a shame in football, they made a huge impact on Scottish football, set records, defied the odds and now they're shutting down over the cost of 1/5 of John Terry's weekly wage. Shame.
Jay_Corolla
Yeah, but how did they make that impact, win all those titles, set those records? By spending way out of their means. They had players on SPL wages playing in the 3rd division, guys like Chris Innes and Steve Tosh, easily on over 1k-a-week. They bought success right through the divisions, buying out the opposition. Quite like the Old Scum - but atleast they can afford what their paying for! You can say that it's only a fifth of Terry's wages, but that 30k is alot of money in Scottish football! I hope they rot and die.
JAStewart
In that case, I hope the same.. for Elgin City FC.
Jay_Corolla
Elgin City are everything that Gretna should have tried to be. A solid third division club with the ambitions of promotion to the second. Elgin have a bigger fanbase than the villiage folk anyway.
Tomblands
Elgin have been horribly mismanaged. They should have been another Livi/Caley/Ross County after being admitted to the SFL...a steady upwards curve but they have done nothing since being admitted. Their best bet of ever doing anything was when the Kenny Black/Davie Robertson takeover was denied which was crazy. As for Gretna, I feel sorry for the players as they face losing their jobs etc. I don't like the "I hope they rot and die" attitude but all it needed to prevent this happening was someone saying to Mileson "hey, lets just stick about in Division 1 for a few seasons and try to stand on our own 2 feet". Yeah but at least Gretna got to live the dream albeit a very fleeting one. Elgin will always be mediocre in the lower divisions.
Medziotojas
SPL money to help stricken Gretna The Scottish Premier League has agreed to pay the wages of Gretna's unpaid players - helping the club to stay in business until the end of the season.
