clifts at lunna are good!, take the track out to grutwick and head anywhere north you can cast from....chances of catchin lots o species including mackerel, ling, pollock, cod, wrasse even dogfish :D

 

another favorite of mine is Brae Houland in Eshaness

head for the points where you see the 23

 

scalloway harbour can also be fun if you can't be ar$ed walkin too far

lots of different species including flatfish, cod etc

 

and last but not least is the loch at weisdale(opposite the shop)

lots of flatfish, mainly flounder, and the place where Frank watt landed the shetland record shore caught cod a couple o years back!

Just out of curiosity, does anybody here ever "Geeng ta da craigs wi a waand"??

I love a good pan of boiled sillocks, especially when they are left in the water after boiling, and eaten cold the next day, just like a sweetie.

 

An fur dem dat dusna ken. A Sillock is a peerie Piltock. Which is a Coalfish. :lol:

quendale beach is worth a go.... there is flounders, and turbot.. acorrding to some ... inside knowledge..

 

 

anybody catch much at meal then?

 

iv tried it two or three times with no luck... so i gave up..

 

if you want flounders, that are decent,, go to hellister, and use three hook flappers, or two up - one down with size 2's or 4's (hooks)

Hi Liam

A guy who used live doon at sumburgh told me the beach in bye

the pier was a good bit for dabs and they used to get a few place

mostly using worms as bait he also said if you need lug worm the

pool of virkie was the place to go for them :wink:

yis, I geein ta craigs noo n' ageen, wi da auld bamboo sillock wand, sometimes da spinner as weel. I think da sam, boild and huy dim cawuld da nixt day, wi early tatties or (I most remind me sell to be PC here) - shetlun 'black' tatties, an a grain a croppine made wi da livers.
